Directed by: Terry Gilliam
It is 1971, and journalist Raoul Duke barrels toward Las Vegas—accompanied by a trunkful of contraband and his slightly unhinged Samoan attorney, Dr. Gonzo—to cover a motorcycle race. What should be a cut-and-dried journalistic assignment quickly descends into a feverish psychedelic odyssey. Director Terry Gilliam and an all-star cast headlined by Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro show no mercy in bringing Hunter S. Thompson’s excoriating dissection of the American way of life to the screen, creating a film both hilarious and savage.

Release Notes on Restoration

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is presented in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are normal for this format. Approved by director Terry Gilliam, this digital transfer was created from the 35mm interpositive. Thousands of instances of dirt, debris, scratches, splices, warps, jitter, and flicker were manually removed using MTI's DRS system and Pixel Farm's PFClean system, while Digital Vision's DVNR system was used for small dirt, grain, and noise reduction.

The 2.0 surround soundtrack was remastered at 24-bit from the original magnetic 6-track masters. The new 5.1 surround soundtrack was remastered at 24-bit from the original 35mm stems and the 35mm 5.1 DTS print master. Clicks, thumps, hiss, and hum were manually removed using Pro Tools HD. Crackle was attenuated using AudioCube's integrated workstation. Please be sure to enable Dolby Pro Logic decoding on your receiver to properly play the Dolby 2.0 surround soundtrack.
