Andre Techine's extraordinary work with actors and his visionary approach to the complexity of emotions have made him one of France's leading post-New Wave directors. The four acclaimed films in this unique collection represent Techine's move toward naturalism and his masterful ability to examine the human condition.
Includes: Wild Reeds (Les Roseaux Sauvages)
I Don't Kiss (J'Embrasse Pas)
Hotel America (Hotel Des Ameriques)
My Favorite Season (Ma Saison Preferee)
My Favorite Season is my favorite Techine. Also liked the one with Laurence Cote (Thieves), for which she won an award for "best glass eating scene". He's one of those "quality" directors whose films are fine but don't really merit repeat views.
For $25 it might sell. I was looking at his oeuvre on imdb and it really confirmed how middlebrow it is, but spiced up a little bit with gay and arab characters. He's one of the few French directors whose work still consistently gets a US commercial release--not necessarily an indicator of superior quality. The boxset is some of his better work. Another approach would be to box his Deneuve films.
