Andre Techine: 4 Film Collector's Edition

Andre Techine's extraordinary work with actors and his visionary approach to the complexity of emotions have made him one of France's leading post-New Wave directors. The four acclaimed films in this unique collection represent Techine's move toward naturalism and his masterful ability to examine the human condition.

Includes:
Wild Reeds (Les Roseaux Sauvages)
I Don't Kiss (J'Embrasse Pas)
Hotel America (Hotel Des Ameriques)
My Favorite Season (Ma Saison Preferee)

Me neither. Let's hope Wild Reeds is better than its previous craptastic Fox Lorber R1.

Is this good news? I have to admit to knowing nothing about Techine.

imdb says that if I like Hotel America and I Don't Kiss, I'll also like Titantic, Spider Man 2, and The Basketball Diaries.

Seeing as I love those films, I'll spring for this set immediately.

(I've never actually seen any Techine movies, and I know those rec's are 96% bullshit. Also those drool smilies look like faces with neon goatees.)

Sorry. What we need are: ImageImageImage

My Favorite Season is my favorite Techine. Also liked the one with Laurence Cote (Thieves), for which she won an award for "best glass eating scene". He's one of those "quality" directors whose films are fine but don't really merit repeat views.

Lionsgate is going to move about eighteen copies of this set, tops.

Great box. If it has got Spanish subtitles, I want it. My French is horrible, worse than my English  so I need subt.

J'embrasse pas, Wild reeds, Ma saison, what a good films !

I've not seen Hotel des Ameriques

For $25 it might sell. I was looking at his oeuvre on imdb and it really confirmed how middlebrow it is, but spiced up a little bit with gay and arab characters. He's one of the few French directors whose work still consistently gets a US commercial release--not necessarily an indicator of superior quality. The boxset is some of his better work. Another approach would be to box his Deneuve films.

Sounds like they will be porting the Canal discs. Wild Reeds has a very decent transfer.

Buy!

It is bad that "Hotel Des Ameriques" overlaps with Catherine Deneuve: 5-Film Collection. They could put a different title instead.

Beaver review. Looks like the Hotel Des Ameriques transfer is the same as the one on the Deneuve boxset.
