Glad to see some love for Bob Godfrey's Kama Sutra Rides Again and Mickey Mouse in Vietnam. Along with Reichenbach's The Marines, all three are written about in Amos Vogel's "Film As A Subversive Art", where Kubrick also figures highly. There's a fantastic letter to Kubrick from Vogel in Jerome Agel's "The Making of 2001".

I was really hoping for more on Kubrick’s co-writers, especially Gustav Hasford (who actually was in Vietnam with Dale Dye, Oliver Stone’s military advisor on his films)

From what I gathered in Kubrick: An Odyssey, it sounds like Hasford was kind of, uhm, a handful. (Among other things, not long after the film came out, Hasford pled guilty in the largest library book theft in American history.) We lost him in 1993, IIRC.

Sadly, we also lost Michael Herr a decade ago, who would’ve been intensely interesting.

Kino Lorber has put that out on Blu-ray, which would require involving yet another rightsholder. I'd rather see them include S Is for Stanley (2015).

Vivian Kubrick has posted a couple long tweets on X to address the conspiracies/rumors abounding about Eyes Wide Shut having scenes removed after Kubrick's death. The idea that EWS was altered by the studio or a shadowy cabal after SK's death has been back online recently after Roger Avary talked about it on the Joe Rogan Experience. (I enjoy Avary's podcast appearances but he's way off base on this one.)

Not much new information in Vivian Kubrick's posts, but it's noteworthy in the sense that VK is typically very open to entertaining conspiracy theories, so if there was even the slight chance of there being some substance to it, you'd think she would be the first one to say so.

Quite ironic for her to talk about conspiracy theories given that Vivian is a Scientologist.

Avary isn't exactly a good source of information that we should be gleaming from because he's spent the last few years spouting all number of nonsensical conspiracy theories about exactly the kinds of things you might expect. Vivian is also not exactly a font of wisdom either and also said some utterly insane shit in the past few years which makes her rebuttal to Avary and others genuinely surprising to me because she strikes me as exactly the type of someone who might believe in all manner of kooky shit surrounding Eyes Wide Shut.
