I live in France, and there is a theatrical release.
I bought years ago the TF1/Ocean DVD which was the best DVD source (no blu-ray around ?) at the time and it is still the case.
The movie is now slightly longer than the DVD.

there is a web site here : https://www.solaris-distribution.com/fi ... ium-mambo/
you can download the HD trailer (and DCP)

I really hope this movie will be in the hands on Criterion. I was wondering, has there been any hint, tweet, or something from Criterion about Millenium Mambo coming into the collection ? :-k [-o<
the only real thing we have is that they've worked with Hou twice before - he was interviewed on Taipei Story and worked on Flowers of Shanghai. the issue is that the new restoration is premiering at Metrograph, a place that has not hosted a Janus premiere lately. without being accused of "brand loyalty", this is a title I really wanted to see Criterion get, as I know they would work with Hou directly again. if Metrograph is the rightsholder, I'm concerned as they also hold Goodbye Dragon Inn and have not given that a disc release at all - it plays their theatre in NYC constantly and weirdly got a run in Regal cinemas nationwide with little promotion. luckily Second Run came to the rescue there, but will we be so lucky with Millennium Mambo? this 21 year old film already feels underseen. I would be really disappointed if this sees the fate of some of Tsai's films have gotten (or even how some of Yang's films have been restored but went straight to obscurity in the US - see Terrorizers) where they either don't get a disc release, or get one with very little love/promotion that doesn't sell well, and then everyone will claim "Hou won't sell, so no more releases" or something of the sort that has plagued Theo Angelopoulos' filmography

and yes, there is a French UHD coming that's already been confirmed to not have English subs. sorry this got way out of the subject of the thread!

how comme "Comment je me suis disputé... (ma vie sexuelle)" is still not release by Criterion on blu-ray ? Does Criterion plans (or gives us some hint about an upcoming release by tweeting about it) to release it on blu-ray ?

There is a Japanese blu-ray box set (with "La Sentinelle" (one of his best movie).
And the restauration done by Eclair is pretty good; not greenish or yellowish it looks accurate, lovely in HD and with film-like grain texture.
There is a WEB 1080 around. I don't know if the Japanese box set used this restoration.
I wonder why this has not been released on blu-ray in France so far.
Is there some problems/legal issues ?

It premiered on their streaming channel with the Criterion logo, so we know they own the rights. But they've also owned the rights to many films for many, many years without giving them a physical release. Nobody here, except maybe a few posters who come by with hints/guesses on occasion, knows the 'if/when' of its announcement, but per usual, I hope it's this week

at least the restoration by Eclair is okay, not greenish or yellowish like a lot- it was such a pleasure to re-watch this movie in 1080, more than 20 years after its theatrical release in France in 1992.

I bought the European 4K release of THE TRIAL, so that can only mean that Criterion will release theirs shortly.

I can definitely see a box with the 4K restorations of Leos Carax’s first 3 features at some point. It’s ridiculous how POLA X still doesn’t have a Blu, and the DVD is over 20 years old.
