As of 2020 Sofia Coppola said she didn't have plans to release any more of her movies with Criterion. I would love it if that has since changed, though.
with The Virgin Suicides getting a 4K upgrade I think it's certainly a possibility that changed, especially since she did work with them on the new edition too

LIT is very near and dear to me, the current overly glossy and quite frankly extremely awful current disc it has from Universal has long been in need of an overhaul. it's insane that DVD is still the best way to watch this incredibly grainy, filmic movie. basically a dream Criterion for me as I know they would actually work with her and Lance Accord on getting the look down perfectly

Warner Archives released this in 2020. Trying to throw us off the scent?

Not at all. Criterion has released three of the six films in the Warner box set of comedies from the mid-aughts: To Be or Not to Be, Bringing Up Baby, and The Philadelphia Story. And right now there's a Myrna Loy retrospective on the Channel, with a specially commissioned piece by Imogen Sara Smith in which she mentions Libeled Lady as an exceptionally sophisticated screwball. Moreover, neither Myrna Loy nor Jean Harlow is in the collection, so I'm crossing my fingers hard. It's a favorite movie and deserves a place in the collection--and a better place than Warner Archives.

Right, but did Criterion release those other films after WA released them on blu-ray just a year or so earlier?

I hope you're right about the Zetterling!

I have no idea, but I didn't want to copy others' guesses that draw on Channel retrospectives (e.g., The Lusty Men, which is another film that I think ISS singled out in a Channel piece, or else it was Farran Smith Nehme). I think folks who chose a Robert Ryan or a Robert Mitchum title are right to look at the Channel as the place for clues that somebody on the inside likes something specific in the lineup. And since Criterion has noticeably been pursuing women directors' works, and this title has two of Sweden's best-known actresses, I settled on it as the likeliest if any Zetterling was to come into the collection.

awfully quick turnaround on that. I guess their long delay of freeing it from Eclipse makes it a bigger priority than some of the other Janus stuff we're waiting on

Obviously it deserves a release, have we heard of Criterion specifically getting a crack at it before?

It is a Netflix title from a director that Criterion has worked with in the past. So it isn't an unreasonable guess.

I win. We can close the thread early this month. I got one announcement right. Confirmed, cannot be wrong move along people ;)

BUT I am super damn happy if it's at least close to being an actual hint for tomorrow's announcements and is gonna be a 4k. I better stop thinking about this

They updated the Eclipse Daisies DVD page with some pretty spectacular looking new stills.

Maybe they'll include their Daisies dress-up doll cutouts as a bonus.

Me to Criterion every single month since July announcements (it's just one guy):

Cool that Daisies is getting a release, though that puts the kibosh on my Ikarie XB-1 prediction ](*,)

the question is whether Criterion will port over the two excellent commentaries from the Second Run edition of Daisies. Kat Ellinger and Samm Deighan both have never appeared in the collection, something I find incredibly unusual given that...every other label commissions them

Criterion also just retweeted a poster for Bad Timing which they may or may not have also teased earlier this year. it probably means nothing, but something to be aware of. they "teased" Contempt again the other day too

Daisies is one of my absolute favorite films, but since I’m very happy with the Second Run Blu-ray release, I’m right there with you in hoping it’ll be a 4K release because I frankly don’t think I’ll feel the need to get Criterion’s if it’s just Blu-ray (unless it has a ridiculous amount of new features, I suppose).

I think this is more of a birthday recognition for Roeg, which CC is fond of doing
