As of early this year, at least, Janus didn't have U.S. rights to The Boys from Fengkuei (and neither did anybody else). That was surprising since it's a World Cinema Project title and the restoration has been around for awhile at this point, but it seems to be in a different boat than other WCP films in that the rights are handled by CINEMATEK in Belgium rather than the WCP/Film Foundation themselves. So I'm guessing Janus and Criterion would have to strike a separate licensing deal—which wouldn't be impossible, since MoC did it, but it's probably resulted in that particular title getting backburnered in favor of other WCP restorations that can be licensed through the existing relationship with the Film Foundation. I also don't see the Jia titles getting released by Criterion without some other hullabaloo first, e.g. a Janus and/or festival rollout.
