For the entire day I had confused La chienne with Un Chien Andalou, so I also had an enlightening moment with Google.

Why don't they just make it official that their announcements are on the 16th of each month and not the 15th anymore ?

.... because there's no specific numbered day they do it each month. There's a specific time frame: middle of the month and in a month with 31 days, the 16th makes sense. You're that hurt over having to wait an extra day?

Oh no, I don't. These announcements are for titles that will only be released in months, what is a 1 day delay on the announcements ?
It's just that they're saying in their tweet "thanks for your understanding" for the delay like it's exceptional, but it has become so frequent that I'm wondering why this doesn't become the standard. If you're always 1 day late to announce stuff, just change the date by 1 day, you know.

The "thanks for understanding" is surely a joke made in anticipation of the furious tweets they get whenever a delay is announced.

Because if they announce announcement day for the 16th of every month, surely eventually all announcements will be made on the 17th.

It's early yet. Sometimes it takes until like 7 PM, right?

Remember that one month like eight years ago when the new listings went up at like 10 AM? Truly one of my fondest memories

I think that's the latest it's been in the past (minus an odd exception).

At the same time, it wouldn't surprise me if they are delayed again. My guess is there's something with one of the releases that's holding them up.

When the December 2014 releases were announced a day late they did it at like noon. This trend has not lasted through this becoming a regular event.

As ever, I immediately suspect and blame Beatrice Welles

Speaking of which, what on earth ever happened to that release of The Other Side of the Wind?

Or Gena Rowlands figured out that they were about to announce the original version of Shadows.

While we're doing Orson Welles inquiries, can I ask if it's at all possible Criterion could be planning "Welles' Shakespeare" set consisting of Chimes at Midnight, Othello, and Macbeth? I know Criterion has the first two's new restorations but I'm unsure if the third has come up at all.

Probably. I wish they'd be OK with announcing, say, four titles, and then simply saying "We may have one more, but it may be with next month's announcements. We'll let you know next week," or something. I doubt they'd lose interest because of it, and it would give the complainers something to discuss in the meantime.

Announcements in general are fairly new innovation, the new titles used to just pop up on the old website and were found by guessing the URL for the coverart [/Criterion Historian]

Longer ago than that, even. Before the switchover to Amazon image hosting, so at least two site redesigns ago.
