The new DVD from Legend Films is not an extended cut. It is actually shorter than the old Image DVD and does not feature the Harryhausen commentary as promised.HerrSchreck wrote:Nah, that just got a rerelease on dvd w the extended cut, and I believe w Harryhausen contributing (as in SHE, etc).
Hopefully there is still hope that a better restoration will come out in the future, especially since Janus seems to have a print that is better than those currently available.

In the meantime, R2 company Network has already released the extended version of Things to Come that was on TCM. It's a great package, with an even longer "reconstruction" that uses stills and intertitles (much like Metropolis). I can't imagine Criterion outdistancing the Network edition by much -- except perhaps in the sound department. (The audio is the only really weak thing about the Network edition.)
In fact, if I'm remembering correctly, the print TCM showed was also preceded by a Channel 4 logo, which indicates that Janus/Criterion is working from -- or at least currently distributing -- the Network-sponsored restoration.

Since we are discussing a possibility of Criterion issuing R1 version of Network's Special Edition my question is: is there any chance Criterion doing Ipcress File?
I would rather see them issuing Ipcress than THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD...
Is any other label planning to re-issue Ipcress File for R1?

He is referring to the fact that the R2 DVD company, Network, has released a special edition of Things To Come, not the Sidney Lumet film, Network.Cinephrenic wrote:Huh? Fox's Forty Guns is now out of print. It would make a great companion for The Furies or the impending Fuller titles.

Isn't that DVD also some weird colorized version? From what I understand this is just a public domain release by a company that specializes in digitally colouring public domain films. I'm sure Criterion hardly pays attention to such things or take them seriously.Feego wrote:The new DVD from Legend Films is not an extended cut. EDIT: Just went to their website where they have trailers for their films. The colorized versions of Carnival of Souls and My Man Godfrey scare me.

Excellent news! I've held off buying Shock Corridor for awhile in the hopes that they'd re-do it.thethirdman wrote:The Naked Kiss and Shock Corridor are scheduled for re-releases in 2008, according to Jonathan Turell and email responses received by members.LightBulbFilm wrote:What are the other Fuller titles besides White Dog?

Just for fun (and to occupy my fingers a-twittering in anticipation): I predict that the April Criterions will be The Thief of Baghdad (seems to be a given), Zentropa (the blog mention was all the way back in October, so it seems likely to come soon), a Malle (My Dinner with Andre, perhaps), and Mishima (though it wouldn't surprise me if this one doesn't make it again). No idea about Eclipse, though perhaps Imamura or Mizoguchi will finally surface.

I think he means as in April is a little too early to expect the release. Or he could just be out of the loop, but Bottle Rocket is coming. Sometime.
It's probably about time for another rerelease, hopefully Salo. Maybe the Fullers, but I think White Dog would come out first. Unless they really want to one-two punch everyone's wallets.
