Speaking of Scorpion and Argento, they have lost the rights to Two Evil Eyes (which they never released because they never got the promised access to the film elements) and Blue Underground has re-licensed it and announced they are doing a new 4K scan. However, three other Argento movies appear to still be in the works. Freak-o-rama posted that they've shot interviews for Scorpion releases of Sleepless, The Card Player, and, everyone's favorite Argento film, Phantom of the Opera

Unfortunately, Phantom of the Opera’s no longer Argento’s worst film (actually, it might even be my favourite of those three...).

I agree that it is no longer his worst, but it is the dividing line between his great run in the 70s and 80s and his bad films of the 90s and 00s. The Card Player is my favorite from those three and I am looking forward to replacing my crappy, interlaced Anchor Bay DVD.

I'm in agreement here. I don't think he directed something truly, truly awful until Phantom despite my belief that most of his stuff post Opera was much, much weaker than everything that came before it. I still get whiplash thinking about how big his decline was.

This news is great for the fans of these films though. And collectors. Unsure if I could sit through Phantom more than once though.

I agree too that Phantom was the most major falling off point, but I personally have always thought Sleepless was the one exception to his later works’ decline. Sad to hear that isn’t universally true!

I have to pay $50 to watch this film with the Italian audio? (I know Cult Films has an edition in the U.K., but it doesn't have many positive reviews.)

Over at the Blu-ray.com forums, Scorpion Releasing said that the 3-disc Opera is going to go on sale next Tuesday and, for international customers, Diabolik DVD will have copies.

I’m curious, though. Isn’t there a longer Italian cut of Opera, or am I just misremembering.

Opera was cut for content in places like the UK with edits involving more specified gore. It's no longer censored though. So if a longer version existed it was probably the uncensored version that was previously unavailable. Unless there's info I'm not aware of.

I guess next Tuesday was the wrong date. Scorpion posted the following on Facebook

We are pleased to announce that Dario Argento’s OPERA will be available for purchase Monday March 25th at 12 pm PST/3:00 pm EST

This limited set is only 2000 pressed and will include a limited edition poster of the custom art as well as a beautiful Slip sleeve

Thanks Big Ben, I looked a little further into it elsewhere, and it does appear there's not a different/longer Italian version. Maybe I'm thinking ofPhenomena, or maybe just read some misinformation somewhere.
