Go to Deluxe Digital in London,
see this page, and the right hand side 'recent credits' box - note that they've restored
The Scarlet Pimpernel,
Canterbury Tales and
Jungle Book for Criterion.

"Jungle Book" and "Scarlet Pimpernel" are excellent news, of course. And I suppose CC will release the whole Trilogy, not just "Canterbury Tales". Now if they please could also work on "The Elusive Pimpernel"....

Nice find. Some of those BFI titles have been out a couple of years now, so the restoration of
Canterbury Tales is quite possibly the one already released by BFI on Blu.

From Twitter:
What could this mean? Panic Room to coincide with The Game?

Very strange to have a director's three least artistically successful films in the collection and none of his best. Only Fight Club is missing.

That won't actually be true until they get their hands on Alien 3.

re: Khondji....maybe City of Lost Children? The R1 disc is nearly ten years old, and it's a Sony property.
Criterion released Evita on laserdisc. Don't know what the rights issues are with it.

Did Zidane, a 21st Century Portrait get a US release? IMDb and Amazon.com don't suggest as much...

He wasn't saying it was a lesser work, or a bad film. It was a financial failure and a complete flop along with the Game and Panic Room (and Alien 3).
EDIT: Wait, Wasn't Benjamin Button hugely successful financially? At least as much or more as Zodiac? I have to confess that I am now confused by what the poster meant as well.

He said "artistically," not "commercially," so his meaning his pretty clear even if you don't side with his taste.

Wow, that's the first time I've heard that movie mentioned- it was filmed right near where I live, and my stepmother's art was used in the production design, so it's a family favorite, but I didn't know it had any outside currency.

I saw In Dreams in theaters; I remember nothing except thinking it was awfully silly.

Well, it's a lot more than silly, so maybe you should see it again

Stealing Beauty? The Ninth Gate? My Blueberry Nights?
He hasn't had that long of a career so there can't be that many choices.

Having just looked up Khondji on imdb- has anyone heard anything about the upcoming Lady from Shanghai remake by Wong Kar-wai? That sounds... surprising.

It's a remake in the same sense that Soderbergh's Solaris was a remake of Tarkovsky's. It's been in pre-production since 2006 (maybe earlier) and seems to have been put on the shelf for now.

I would hope it's City of Lost Children, as that could use a better release. They don't need to release either Fincher title. I'm pretty sure they are both on blu already. The Panic Room dvd was 3 discs and I don't see how they could add anything else to it.
It's probably Stealing Beauty (barebones, Fox, Bertolucci) which would be a disappointment.

Could it be an interview about a cinematographer or movie that has influenced him rather than being one of his own films? They've done the sort of thing dozens of times (No PTA in the collection for example).

Gotta be Stealing Beauty
