Really frustrating to not have Cross the Rubicon on its own. It’s insane how many of Fukasaku’s films have gotten Blu-Ray releases in the last few years, but his very best film is still so elusive (Under the Flag of the Rising Sun)

Widely regarded as one of the greatest Japanese crime films of all time, A Colt Is My Passport is a lean, mean masterpiece from Nikkatsu’s golden era.

A Colt Is My Passport follows solitary hitman Kamimura (Joe Shishido) after a routine contract collapses into betrayal. Branded expendable by his employers, he flees with only his gun, his personal code, and a woman inadvertently drawn into his escape- moving through desolate industrial zones toward an end that feels both inevitable and self-chosen.

Filmed in austere black-and-white, the film distils noir to its most elemental form: spare dialogue, rigorously controlled compositions, and bursts of sudden violence. Its cool minimalism—inflected with the influence of the spaghetti western, culminates in one of the most explosive finales in cinema history. A cornerstone of Nikkatsu’s action cycle and a career-defining performance from Joe Shishido.

They also updated everyone that they are hoping the Urotsukidoji boxset will be ready for July. And that the Love Exposure set (which everyone assumes will be the 10 episode tv version of the film) will come later in the year.

They also mentioned that there are rights issues right now with School Of The Holy Beast which maybe explains why no one has put it out on Blu yet.
