I hear they make what? $80 / hour? For doing nothing but breaking a website?

I stand utterly corrected on the Shimizu. Hopefully I was as completely wrong on the Rossellini.Max von Mayerling wrote:Ok, he's currently scoring it. So I'll be expecting both the Shimizu and the Rossellini war trilogy sometime in 2011.

My first venture to that shipwreck of a site was today... was thinking the same thing. Either I'm just getting older or they're just get more clueless. Or both.domino harvey wrote:Well, good job Criterion on your first release day on your new website being just as much a disaster as the redesign. =D>
(Speaking of clueless (me), anybody know how to get update notices on more than the approx 10 at any given time threads that this site (criterionforum) seems to keep me up to date with?)

I hate to rain on a zing fest but, historically, they put up new releases around 5pm on the 15th unless that date is a weekend or a Monday. Brief sightings of an early live page are nothing new. I'm sure they just fiddle around with them before hand to make sure they're more or less ready for public consumption.

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation
They're still not up on the official site, but I've added the specs to the initial post of the threads for the new titles. Danton and Last Metro are $40, and Dodes'ka-den and Il Generale della Rovere are $30. 400 Blows Blu-ray is also listed as $30.
Le corbeau, Quai des orfèvres, Port of Shadows, and Variety Lights are all officially back in print.

Who-hoo! Commentaries by Insdorf and Toubiana on Metro. My sense of satisfaction with this package of features is eclipsed only by my excitement for having predicted the participants of the two(!) commentaries. I am guessing that the Toubiana/Depardieu commentary may have been ported from an existing M2K release ala the second Jules and Jim commentary?

From what I see all those titles are still listed as OOP.aox wrote:any changes? Has Le corbeau still not been corrected?Jeff wrote:Le corbeau, Quai des orfèvres, Port of Shadows, and Variety Lights are all officially back in print.

I believe that Jeff is getting his info from non-website sources, i.e., press releases. I imagine that the reprints will be announced on the website as soon as they figure out what the hell they are doing with the website.

Work on the site is being hampered by too much bandwidth being stolen by the Auteurs forum hotlinking Criterion.com's pix in their "Official Top Babes of Criterion" thread.

Oh, I see. Well, that's great news since I've been wanting to pick up Le Corbeau for a while now.Tom Hagen wrote:I believe that Jeff is getting his info from non-website sources, i.e., press releases. Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation
The info on the reissue of the OOP titles comes from a Criterion sell sheet. It specifically mentions all four titles being back in print and available on March 10.

Sure that's not from the Janus set? I just recently saw the film and I think Quai des brumes is far better. What A Disgrace wrote:Has anybody seen this yet?

Re: 465 Dodes'ka-den
Now i hope Criterion will release "Dersu Uzala" (1975) soon. I have their laserdisc which is a ok print of the film and i have both Kino and the Ruscico dvd versions but all of them are not the best quality image. Lets hope Criterion can find a good print of the film!!

Re: 'Forthcoming' Lists Discussion and Random Speculation
How about Bo Widerberg Eclipse set? A great Swedish director, only a couple of his films on DVD/VHS release.
These would make an excellent set:
Ådalen '31
Kvarteret Korpen
Joe Hill
Elvira Madigan

Re: 465 Dodes'ka-den
I would assume that even if they simple put that old Laserdisc transfer on dvd it would look better than the Ruscico and its clones. I've seen a pretty decent print of "Dersu" on German TV some years ago, so there must be better materials around than the Russians have. I only fear that CC can't do it because Kino probably has exclusive rights for the US.

My suspicion is that if RusCiCo have it, CC or Kino or anybody aren't going to get anything but a RusCiCo transfer.
Has CC ever released a RusCiCo title?

Re: 465 Dodes'ka-den
That's a good question... Dersu Uzala and Tarkovsky's The Stalker are the only RusCiCo titles i own.....and i did read somewhere that the original negatives to Dersu are in bad shape and needs a major restoration.HerrSchreck wrote:My suspicion is that if RusCiCo have it, CC or Kino or anybody aren't going to get anything but a RusCiCo transfer.

Re: 465 Dodes'ka-den
Both "Solaris" and "Ivan's Childhood" are Ruscico titles in the rest of the world, so there might be some hope.
