Chris's thoroughness and thoughtfulness when assessing special features (as opposed to just stating what they are) is also appreciated.

I just came from B&N. They didn’t have Kubrick sets available. They were telling customers all their inventory for the set are pre-orders. If the people don’t come in within 3 days they will go back on the shelves. I can’t say I’m surprised. I would’ve pre-ordered too.

To the comments everyone made above I just want to say I really appreciate it. I know people read them; I see stats, but am never really sure anybody gets anything out of them, so again, thank you for that. I really try to be thorough, but I know I miss things.

I was planning to have the set done by the BN sale, but I had to travel for work to Minneapolis this week and wasn't able to finish write-ups. I've gone through everything but Eyes Wide Shut (which I've already confirmed are the same discs, so no rush there) and the bonus disc. But to summarize: Looking closer, 2001 pretty much looks identical to the Warner, but Criterion's extras are better. Full Metal Jacket might be slightly better than the Warner but they're pretty close as well. Extras are good, but only a few new things.

I agree, but think it would have been helpful to have watched everything before reviewing and rating the discs individually. For instance, the reviewer talks about the lack of context for Fear and Desire, but it's well covered elsewhere on the box set, namely Kubrick By Kubrick and A Life In Pictures. In one of the interviews the set producer discusses how things were laid out in a certain way to avoid repitition.

It is (I've seen the doc before), but I guess I'm talking something new and specific, academic even. Kino has a commentary and while I wouldn't expect that here, even an interview would have been good.
Either way, the disc ultimately doesn't have much material on it.
