I don't know who has it in the UK now. Studio Canal or Curzon?
It should be with Curzon. It can be streamed on their website: https://homecinema.curzon.com/film/the-host/

It's good that Magnolia are going to release it in SDR. Much has been said about that master including claims that they've rescanned the shots that don't have VFX but with so much processing over the course of the film it unsurprisingly turned out to be an upscale of the old DI. The Magnolia shouldn't be any different, so keep expectations in check but at the very least there won't be unnecessary HDR that exposes the limitations even more.

Orbit are stocking the Aussie import of Cheerleader though you'll have to subscribe to their notifications as they are waiting on new stock to arrive.

MannFan, I thought I had added Pat Garrett to the OP but I never did. Oops. Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid (Criterion)

Thanks, nic. Since Curzon have it, I might wait. Mifunefan mentioned two months or so ago that he also saw a product code for a Curzon UHD of Mother someplace.

^ The Canadian 4K is unfortunately a straight port of the Neon disc.

Saw that post too, what a happy surprise. I asked Orbit if they'll stock it and let you know their reply. Worth reiterating that it's one of those "HDR10 better than DV" discs, like Criterion's Days of Heaven UHD.
This is the first time I am hearing that about Days of Heaven, why is HDR10 viewing preferred to DV there?

This is probably a mixup. At that time, discs from Criterion, Kino, SC etc. routinely used to look better in DV as they’ve used big FEL layers that improved the base layers. Days of Heaven may have been one of those discs but I can’t remember it any more.

Would be curious as to your caps comparisons to the Arrow 4K.

I tied them in the OP because, even though the Arrow has no filtering and an ever so slightly better encode, the majority of people aren't going to notice watching the film in motion. Go with whichever version is cheapest for you or whose extras appeals more to you.

Here are the caps. I don’t see any traditional filtering in the Criterion as the image detail “underneath” the grain looks identical. It’s probably just different encoding settings that made the grain look slightly more pronounced or softer.

Yep aware of that with DV FEL encodes but Finch phrased this vice versa as the HDR10 being the preferred viewing option for Days of Heaven, hence my question.

That actually makes more sense. When actually watching the film there is literally no difference.

I did a search in this thread for Days of Heaven and only found my original note in the OP that the reference tier only applied to HDR10 playback. I must have read somewhere that there were issues with the Dolby Vision presentation but I have no recall now what they were. If this turns out not to be the case, then I can delete the caveat.
