I actually like his theatrical posters that Shout are reusing for their steelbooks quite a bit better than the cluttered Arrow artworks but, again, those should have been announced along with the regular releases originally rather than making interested customers double-dip (Ditto what they are doing in reverse with films like Nightcrawler with ugly steelbooks first and more aesthetically pleasing regular editions six months later). I'm not among them since Arrow are giving us all round superior products anyway but it's a shady practice.

Some people think they did the steelbooks to capitalize on Stella's death, but they clearly were planning these before that happened precisely to get a portion of the customers to double dip.

Looking forward to it, the Blu-ray of Hostel 2 looks awful. I also think it's one of the better horror sequels out there, it's one that surpasses the original.

They are also releasing Abigail in a steelbook. In fact all of October's releases are steelbooks except a repackaing of the REC collection , which is going from 4 individual cases in a slipbox to a 4 disc single case release.

B&N's website has leaked that Shout will be releasing a Women in Prison box set on UHD in November. Listing doesn't have the titles or disc count, but the set has an MSRP of $160.

Unlike a lot of Director's Cuts which are seemingly just the director indulging in a do-over, this was actually taken away from Joe Carnehan and recut by the producers. It was bad enough that Frank Grillo complained to the press that the re-edit compromised his performance, and I believe Carnehan refused to promote it. I remember the theatrical version as being...fine, with a scene stealing performance from Alexis Louder. I'm interested in seeing the originally intended version.

More on the new Director's Cut of Miami Vice from Media Play News

To mark the film’s 20th anniversary, the new definitive edition uses elements from both the original theatrical master and Mann’s first director’s cut along with previously unused dailies footage, with fine details adjusted scene by scene to help ensure the new cut looks and sounds better than ever. Fans will also notice changes to the story, with select scenes being refined, a re-ordering of certain scenes, and a significantly recut final act incorporating previously unused footage to reflect Mann’s preferred ending.

The collection is housed in a rigid slipcase and includes three versions of Miami Vice, with the 133-minute director’s final cut and the 132-minute theatrical cut on separate 4K discs with Dolby Vision and separate regular Blu-ray Discs, each with 5.1 and 2.0 master audio.

The fifth disc is a regular Blu-ray with the 139-minute original alternate cut and optional commentary by Mann, and bonus materials including the theatrical trailer, behind-the-scenes looks at gun training, the Mojo race and the Haitian hotel camera blocking, and the featurettes “Miami Vice Under Cover,” “Miami & Beyond: Shooting on Location” and “Visualizing Miami Vice.”

The only question that this begs is why Mann couldn't be this flexible with the various cuts of his other films. He hasn't spoken out against screenings of the Manhunter theatrical, although maybe he's had a change of heart and the theatrical shows up on the future US release, preferably restored too.

To be fair, he doesn't seem to be a hardliner about having his older cuts seen, as the Shout Manhunter had at least three cuts as well, including the theatrical on BD. People seem to be betting that the US version of the Manhunter 4K redux will be something similar to this Miami Vice set. But he does SO many unnecessary reedits that the original versions seem to get deprioritized. I hope if this Miami Vice box is a success, they will do the same for the others, because the rest of his filmography is a MESS. You have to go back to DVD to see the theatrical version of Heat.

I don't know if I mentioned this here, but during that Youtube interview with Cliff MacMillan, he let slip that Arrow lost the rights to the New World titles (Hellraiser 1& 2, The Stuff, etc) to another, unnamed company. Looking at digital/streaming listings, it turns out that that company is Shout Factory.
