Cate Blanchett just joined Michael Fassbender and Selena Gomez in the cast, with Gomez expected to be the star

Interesting casting so far. Here's hoping Gomez and Blanchett get to play off each other a bit, given the (presumably) segmented structure.

This is apparently now titled Slayground. Supposedly it's a "Halloween-set horror action thriller film". A teaser has been screening in cinemas over the weekend and there's an official site with a bunch of surveillance camera footage and a countdown timer:

Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter to play Adele Astaire and Ginger Rogers, respectively, in the Tom Holland-led Fred Astaire biopic.

I know actors don’t necessarily have to resemble the real individuals they’re playing, but this seems especially egregious on all three counts. Makeup can work wonders, I suppose.

This is a bad idea in general but I don’t think these are necessarily bad casting decisions. Holland has a kind of gamine quality to his physicality that Astaire also had, though I don’t see the kind of would-be aristocratic grace in him (in passing— I’m not sure I’ve actually seen any movie he has starred in). I read the casting as Sydney Sweeney and I actually thought that wasn’t half bad (if you’ve ever seen Rogers speak unscripted, you’d know it doesn’t take a mental heavyweight to depict her and she too was initially bolstered as just a pretty face) but my first impression is that Sabrina Carpenter is way too tiny to pull this off, though probably a much more accomplished performer than anyone else in the cast from her Disney background

If you believe online celebrity height stats, Tom Holland is 5'5" or 5'6", whereas Astaire was 5'9". Rogers was 5'4" or 5'5", and Carpenter is apparently and even 5'. So proportionally, they should be about right, though Carpenter seems a lot more curvy than Rogers. With the right makeup, I could see her making a passable Rogers.



Qualley as Adele Astaire is kooky, though. They're going to have to dig a trench for her to dance in next to Holland.
