2 different people I know have found the Kpop Demon Hunters UHD in person at B&N for $35. Big slip up on B&N’s part or odd luck coincidence? This was in Philly.

Did they let them buy it? Criterion has let B&N sell stuff early in the past, but it usually was only a week or 2 before release date.

One of them bought it, the other just made the observation.

I'm pretty sure B&N's system locks out early purchases, so it might be an exclusive early release deal.

This must mean the release was fully completed and units were produced months ago, which makes sense as the master was licensed from Netflix and it was public knowledge Criterion had it.

James Flower at Arrow said in his last interview that the discs are usually ready three months prior to release, so the same likely applies to Criterion and everyone else too.

The discs being pressed three months out isn't really a shocker, but them being packaged and at a B&N three months early is. Unless they have an early release deal with Criterion.

They may just be shipping as fast as they can get it out because they anticipate a massive, massive rush in early November, and it was never supposed to go on shelves this early. And given the disc pressing crunch that we may see ourselves in this holiday season - I still remember Universal panicking because they ran out of Oppenheimer 4ks due to demand, and it may be similar with both Spider-Man and The Odyssey - Criterion may be giving themselves as much breathing room to beat the crunch as humanly possible.

No, Grizzly Man isn't with Shout, I think the rights are still with Lionsgate.

What other Herzog's are floating around rights-wise? Wild it's taken this long for Criterion to release one of his, although from my passing knowledge it seems like a lot of his films have stayed somewhat together over the years

I think SCARECROW is 100% coming from Criterion now if they were actually able to get THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER like I had thought/hoped sometime back.

I could see them doing editions for Magnum Force, The Candidate, Bonnie and Clyde, A Streetcar Named Desire, Bullit, and Tim Burton’s Batman one day if the Warner licenses are open.

I do wonder if Batman will ever be released by a boutique label, I'm not sure if it's likely but I didn't think the Warner Kubrick titles would ever be licenced out either.

Those titles are great candidates. I’d hope still for The Wild Bunch, as well as some of Sam Peckinpah’s other movies, and a 4K upgrade for Straw Dogs.

If we’re talking Peckinpah it might be nice to see a release of The Osterman Weekend with a transfer that isn’t completely faded to lilac purple like whatever the hell Anchor Bay did with it. I think that one’s with Lionsgate now since they bought Anchor Bay out a while back.

Previously released on BD by Warner Archive—much like NIGHT MOVES and PERFORMANCE—and Jerry Schatzberg was in the Criterion Closet last year. The WAC BD also has room for improvement and would benefit from a more film-like grade akin to what Criterion/Lee Kline and co. have been going for lately.

You want an example of a BD of a Jerry Schatzberg film that looks properly filmic? Look no further than the Signal One BD of THE PANIC IN NEEDLE PARK. Sublime Schatzberg-supervised and approved 2K remaster (shocking it's not 4K!) by Fox and impeccably encoded by FiM. Perfect disc, no notes.

I do suspect they have BONNIE AND CLYDE and BULLIT, but my gut tells me Arrow will get MAGNUM FORCE if WB choose to license it out.
