Might seem odd I guess but Hateful Eight was basically a one room play...and he's pretty good at doing varied caricatures from German to the deep South. I'd be more concerned if he was doing James Bond or Star Trek.

New play to star Sasha Baron Cohen. I can’t help but think how Tarantino casted a fellow avowed Zionist who’s getting a substantial amount of pushback recently to star in his play. Maybe I’ll be eating my words, but between the confounding apperances where he calls Paul Dano “weaksauce” and then doing things like this, he’s really trying to kill the good will toward him.

There's good will toward Tarantino? I would think with all his bad behavior & scandalous reports over the years that that has long been gone. But I would have thought the same of Trump & Musk too by now & they still have plenty of minions still propping up their cults. There is one common feature of people with narcissistic personality disorder, they are not capable of self-reflection or remorse and therefore do not alter their behavior, so this should be no surprise.

That's the rub, many people with NPD end up producing some of the best works in any field. The ability to disassociate yourself from the opnion of others or society as a whole can produce unique and transformative art...or allow you to commit the most heinous of crimes.

I love his films very much and could accept those elements of his personality if he solely stuck to making films the last few years. His inability to make a 10th and arbitrarily final film has set him off into some sort of purgatory of side projects that are nowhere near as satisfying as his films. His podcast and guest appearances on numerous other podcasts have made him stick around as a media figure giving his opinion rather than a filmmaker. But I suppose he was always annoying with cameo apperances on sitcoms!

It’s funny that this downward slide seems to be motivated by him making the perfect farewell movie one movie too early in his dumbass plan. If he’s gonna insist on being a noxious public personality rather than a director, he might as well count Kill Bill as two movies and call it a day.

Another feature of NPD is that they get almost as much of a boost to their ego from negative publicity as positive, what they don't like is to be ignored/forgotten because it means they don't matter anymore.

The other thing is that there'll be at least some critics and fans arguing that he ruined his perfect run with at least some of the films following Jackie Brown, citing Death Proof or The Hateful Eight or Django Unchained as exhibits of his decline. I was always puzzled by his insistence on ten films only especially when his fear of getting mixed notices has already come true not once but a couple of times over. I'd actually like to see him adapt more works by others but then he's thinks himself too precious for that as well. He's doing himself no favors with this ten film threshold and all those side projects feel like tacit admission on his part that he knows he's kind of dug himself in a hole there. That self inflicted pressure didn't need to be there.

Yes, because when you "can't help" but think the only reason for two major cultural figures to work together is their "avowed" Zionism, that definitely points to a sober and rational political analysis.
