Recent Film Restorations

Does anyone know who if anyone owns the rights to Makhmalbaf Family films? I think some of Mohsen's films may be available in HD, but I haven't seen any signs of restorations of his daughter Samira's The Apple (1998), his wife Marzieh's The Day I Became a Woman (2000), and his younger daughter Hana's Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame (2007). A comprehensive restoration effort and boxed set would be amazing to have.

In this 1998 Iranian film, Makhmalbaf blends a fictionalized plot over a shocking real-life tale of two sisters imprisoned by their parents. “Experimental docudrama, open-ended essay, [and] a remarkable movie” (J. Hoberman).

Wow this is hopeful news! Hopefully this means physical releases soon, especially having recently watched Buddha Collapsed Out of Shame, this work of art needs preservation!

Film restorer Shivendra Singh Dungarpur has found, in a flea market in Mumbai, the OCN of Bharosa (1963), starring Guru Dutt, and a 70mm print of the Indo-Soviet coproduction Alibaba Aur 40 Chor (1980).

The Roxie (SF) just listed upcoming screenings of a “New 4K Restoration “ of Mikey and Nicky. No mention of a distributor. Anyone know if this the same as the Criterion blu from 2018 or is this in fact new?

Should be the same one (the 2019 4K restoration) per Muscle Distribution, who should also be the distributor.

About time with Minnie and Moskowitz, but it doesn’t seem to be the originally released version of it, which was approximately 130 minutes in length

Minnie and Moskowitz might be the film I’ve seen the most in a theater (four or five times at least) over the last fifteen years of my life and it’s always been the same Universal print. What are the details of the longer cut? I know there were notes that the original release had a scene where Seymour Cassell has a one-night stand with a woman when first arriving to Los Angeles.
