Warner Bros. has struck its first 70mm print of Boogie Nights, which is getting a 5-show initial run at the American Cinematheque

Something I didn't know... Anderson's choice as his favorite film of his is The Master. Interesting. I just read that in an old Indiewire article from 2018. Here

I wonder who the member of the NYFF selection committee was that blocked There Will Be Blood from being shown at the 2007 festival (discussed around 48:00)...would that have been Richard Peña?

It had to have been Peña. That's certainly one of the more insane festival snubs I've heard.

Whatever happened there, PTA didn't seem to have a lot of spite over it as Inherent Vice went on to open NYFF.

It was the centerpiece film, and I know that because one of the most surreal moments I had at the NYFF happened that same year. I was forced to miss the opening due to some schmuck who set fire to an air traffic control facility in Illinois. (My original flight was cancelled as a result, as were many other flights.) I had already bought passes to ten films, the only year I bothered to do that, and needless to say, I was pissed off that I might be stuck in the same fucking awful culture-less suburb while all those tickets went to waste. I ended up missing the whole first week, but as soon as I got back to NYC, I went straight to the NYFF, right when Inherent Vice was having multiple screenings as the festival's centerpiece film. In the span of two minutes, I saw Anderson and Kent Jones walk past me and enjoy a nice long smoke ten feet away from me. (It was actually pretty crowded outside as it was a nice day, but everyone left them alone.) Then Jonathan Rosenbaum shuffles past me, the first time I ever saw him in person. Then a close friend and aspiring filmmaker spotted me, ran up to me and gave me a big hug. And I was like, "Jesus, why did I ever bother leaving?"
