Is there an earlier Cruise Oprah appearance they were basing it on other than the couch jumping? Because that happened in 2005 when the film was released in 2000.

Yeah, it couldn't have been that appearance, however (from Oprah's facebook page)
Tom Cruise made his first appearance on The Oprah Show in 1988. He's since been back 15 more times
Offhand maybe I misheard them. Maybe they just mentioned Tom Cruise on Oprah and I assumed it was that appearance.

I'm curious on how many Fox titles have UHD releases besides The Sound of Music since they've been under Disney?

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Green Book
Alien
Mad Max
The Shape Of Water
Harry Potter
Hot Fuzz
Point Break
Jackie Brown
Brokeback Mountain
Monty Python & The Holy Grail
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Young Frankenstein
Halloween

The Day The Earth Stood Still
Nosferatu the Vampyre...

Or are you only specifically referring to older B&W titles, of which there are much fewer?

The Substitute (Lionsgate) - caps. Nice PQ upgrade but no original audio.

I guess what I’m asking is how has Disney been with getting out the UHD format, apart from any Fox titles that Criterion has released. Are the ones mentioned above out before Disney took over the Fox Catalogue? And also how has the quality been?

My list serves your purpose. All of them are Fox titles out after Disney's takeover. The quality is generally good (apart from the three Cameron titles of course), at least not worse than what Fox was doing by themselves.

The Day The Earth Stood Still
These are the only titles actually owned by Disney via Fox. Point Break is a Largo title, so it's with Shout now. Mad Max was only distributed by Fox on Blu/4K for MGM back in the day. Disney/Fox only has US theatrical rights to Suspiria. Herzog's Nosferatu has been with his own company for decades and US rights are with Shout. Young Frankenstein does have a new 4K restoration, as does The Day the Earth Stood Still. However, only the latter is available (4K SDR) on some digital platforms.

For some reason I thought this came out around same time as Blazing Saddles

It did. The same year. I believe Blazing Saddles was first. And two different studios

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Cult Epics)

EDIT: caps here courtesy of Kyle15

FIM encode, no issues reported with the subs, they seem to have stepped up the QC after the complaints over the His Motorbike Her Island subs.

Future 4Ks to be encoded by Fidelity or LSP.

A Bridge Too Far (Kino) - caps. Here’s a particularly egregious example.

We can likely add Uncommon Valor to the disappointing list as well as the BR.com review caps show similarly heavy blocking.

The Blade (Criterion)

I'd seen the opening 20 minutes from a DVD quality upload on backchannels a few months ago. The entire film looks staggeringly good on Criterion's new UHD. I don't have the facility to take screenshots, otherwise I'd have captured a few stills. This gritty grimy film would make a nice triple bill with Burning Paradise and Killer Constable as one of the most unglamorous and abrasive Hongkong films made. Tsui Hark you crazy man.

Bump, since this is on sale for the first time. Probably going to get it regardless, but would be interested if it's not a substantial upgrade

Haven’t seen any comparison or even caps beyond the ones that were added to the BR.com review: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Diva-4K-Blu-ray/389978/

BD caps look pretty good to me but the 4K seems to have the usual Kino blockiness. Note that the 4K caps aren’t properly tonemapped and therefore very dark.

The new master is very nice though and probably worth it on its own if you like the film. Kino has significantly more special features than the SC disc, so depending on the sale price it’s probably the best option in the end.

Thanks nicolas! Also trying to decide whether to grab their Danger: Diabolik or wait for the MoC..

I’d wait for the MoC. Unlike Kino, they’re including Italian audio and an additional English track that was recorded next to the Italian dub back in 1968 and hasn’t been on home video since the laserdisc. They’re also looking into doing additional damage clean up in the master that Kino didn’t bother with. Of course, you’ve got all the other bells and whistles with the LE and a better encode is all but guaranteed as well.

The Kino 4K uses the same restoration but has a different end credits editing. And according to follow-up discussion from that thread, past releases were like Kino with the SC being the odd one out.
