Kino Lorber are preparing a Blu-ray release of Leni Riefenstahl's The Blue Light (1932), starring Leni Riefenstahl, Mathias Wieman, Beni Führer, Max Holzboer, and Martha Mair. The release is scheduled to arrive on the market on March 24.

Description: By the end of the silent era, Leni Riefenstahl had become an iconic German actress for her athletic performances in the mountain-climbing films of director Arnold Fanck. So it was only natural that, when making her directorial debut, she should return to the genre which had made her famous. In The Blue Light (Das blaue Licht), she plays Junta, an eccentric mountain girl whom the villagers believe to be a witch, since she and only she can reach the peak of the deadly Monte Cristallo, atop which is a cache of luminous gemstones. She befriends a painter (Mathias Wieman) and, beneath a full moon, leads him to the forbidden grotto, not realizing the tragic repercussions of having disturbed the ethereal crystals. Working with cinematographers Hans Schneeberger and Heinz von Jaworsky, Riefenstahl created a dazzling ode to the senses, a folk tale laced with magic and overshadowed by the formidable visual impact of the Dolomites.

Kino Insider on the recent StudioCanal deal:

Some additional info regarding the SC deal.

We're currently planning to release six Blu-ray sets, three are 3-disc sets and one is a 5-disc set.

As far as 4K releases are concerned:

We have three standalone releases (Seduction/Bruiser) and one more title to be announced.

We're also tentatively planning a few sets, a second volume to our Spaghetti Western Classics release, which will include Django Shoot First and another title.

A three film Italian Crime Collection. Titles to be announced. The set will only include the 4K discs, the films will also receive standalone Blu-ray releases.

A Kino Cult title on 4K, previously released on Blu-ray by Shout.

And two more sets, that are currently long shots, but potentially fun ones for the fans.

KLSC has signed a new Paramount deal. They also confirmed they are no longer releasing Hard Eight and got a new title to replace it in the new deal (only me and the guy who asked care, but Arrowhead won’t be part of the deal. I’m probably going to have to wait for Imprint to release it in a Heston box that I’ll have to buy)

They also inadvertently mentioned that they anticipate new yearly Universal deals for the next two years

EDIT also revealed Imprint was licensing their extras to KLSC until recently and there’s a new deal with Gaumont as well

I knew this would either come from KLSC or Radiance! I’ve seen these, they are literally like watching a five part soap opera (they all end on cliffhangers, etc) and on the whole one entry is slightly better than the rest, one worse, and the rest are mediocre for an overall mediocre experience. Ironically, given the eroticism of the subject, and even though Mercier is perhaps best known for being topless in the Truffaut film, the movies contain no nudity! But they do contain Jean-Louis Trintignant in a little Dutch boy haircut, if that’s your fetish

Basil Dearden's output is getting spread out across so many labels, while it's nice that more titles are getting released, it would have been nice to have a comprensive box. It's doubtful we'll get anything more substantial than Criterion's eclipse set, and this seems to be more likely to be upgraded individually, than continued as a set. It's nice to see at least Powerhouse upgrading individual titles to UHD and giving them a healthy dose of bonus features, though its odd we're getting such treatment for The Gentle Gunman, Saraband & The Ship That Died In Shame and not for films like Victim & Sapphire.

Guess Kino's to be applauded for the lack of overlap with their original "British Noir" DVD series? Hadn't realized those had gone OOP. The ones I watched from those weren't anything I'd seek to upgrade, and though there's been a slight change in the series title (not to mention going from 5 to 3 films per set), I'll wait for someone to shout something out before I worry about which forgettable films I have or have not seen.
