I noticed the Blossoms Shanghai page gives an option to stream the pre-launch content in 4K. Is this an option on any other films? Is this a sign the Channel will be launching 4K streaming with this series?

The fact that it's vanished from the marketing copy since is causing a suitable feeling of amnesia. I'm missing the print at Film Forum on Monday to see Paul McCartney in Montréal so was banking on the Channel.

Looking forward to Blossoms Shanghai & the channel dipping further into series, however much in this list has been previously featured on the channel (esp. Wont Kar Wai, unless they're unrolling 4K streaming versions for this). So otherwise an uneventful December (which is fine by me as I have a lot on my home viewing list to catch up on). No holiday-themed highlight &Grand Budapest Hotel is noticeably absent from the hotel theme.

Probably nowhere better than this thread, but Criterion isn't particularly interested in our suggestions.

Speaking from the point of view of being the frequent recipient of such suggestions, it’s usually pretty rare that they have much impact.

The overwhelming majority of recommended titles will have rights and/or materials problems—if a label hasn’t released what appears to be an “obvious” title for them, there’s almost always a specific reason—and the same titles pop up endlessly, even from people who definitely already know that there are currently insuperable hurdles preventing a release. (I can’t fathom that mentality; the label has already confirmed that it’s impossible, so just move onto something else!)

Basically, if it’s a title or filmmaker the label is realistically likely to have heard of already (and most boutique labels are run by long-term film buffs with hugely wide-ranging tastes), the chances are that it’s already been considered.

On the other hand, if it’s genuinely something under most people’s radar, that’s a different matter—I know Deaf Crocodile have been very appreciative of people’s suggestions, since the better ones suggest films that they genuinely didn’t know about before.

I didn't realize my post went to the wrong thread until after posting, but to continue here,

Talking about omissions, they couldn't get any more versions of Wuthering Heights? A collection for two and no more? I remember being affected by the Ralph Fiennes one, which was the current version when I had to read the book for uni.

I just looked up how many adaptaions there are and didn't realize there's a Rivette, a Yoshida, & a Bunuel. Talk about a missed opportunity!

Must have missed it first look through, but The Great Escape is pretty glaring as the collection doesn't have a lot of action-filled movies with stunts. Is there any precedence for the channel working with Radiance for streaming? I wouldn't ordinarily be interested in this theme, but I have wanted to watch The Stunt Man for a while now, but not particularly interested in picking it up on disc.

"Yearning" is missing Brief Encounter, Love Affair, Beauty And The Beast, Woman In The Dunes, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Cat People, A Room With A View, The Lovers...

One should think a program calling itself Yearning should by default have had Naruse's Yearning, one of the best films about, eh, yearning?

Touche! I thought Brief Encounter was the most glaring ommission, but a film with the exact same title as the theme takes the cake!

I saw someone mention this the other day on BlueSky, it appears that some of Janus Films catalog is available to stream on Shout Factory's streaming service (I just looked up Kurosawa, Shout has Seven Samurai, High and Low, Rashomon, and Hidden Fortress, and Truffaut, 400 Blows.) Curious to know what the deal here is (Criterion/Janus just letting Shout stream some stuff in exchange for access to stream some of Shout's catalog?)

I don’t think it has anything to do with Shout specifically. These are all on Tubi as well, so I think there just might be a package of films Janus/Criterion licenses out to all these lower-tier streaming services.
