Re: 1249 King Lear

What a silly man I was droning on about this in The Best Worst Films Ever Made. Trial (yes, trial) 1 just didn't connect with me at all. But after a 3rd viewing (vice trial) I'm all in with this...er...adaptation of an adaptation?Approach? Approximation? Theorisation? Inversion?

The damn thing has me reaching for King Lear. (The Play.)

Is a very serious Woody Allen near the end of the film a part of Godard's disregard for what is conventional? Death of cinema, etc? Do you think Godard asked him to wear the Picasso shirt?

God this thing looks gorgeous. I'm enamoured with 80s Godard, but the cinematography here seems to stand out above the other films of that decade. The restoration is immaculate.

I've gone from thinking Brody is half crazy to devouring his essays (video and booklet). I need to get a good Godard book. Will Brody update his 2008 tome?
