Pusher III is one of the 21st century's great black comedies, and I originally reviewed it off a screener covered in timecode and copyright notices, so this will be a whopping upgrade.

Pusher III is one of the 21st century's great black comedies, and I originally reviewed it off a screener covered in timecode and copyright notices, so this will be a whopping upgrade.

I guess Refn is selling these himself as a 7(!) disc UHD set on his own site (along with Pusher bomber jackets and such). I haven't spent the time to do a comparison, but wonder what is on those extra discs (maybe it's just blu-ray duplicates?) Anyway I find the complementary trilogy of Danish grindhouse films from the 60's (also restored in 4k!) to be a very clever extra.

It appears that there are 3 discs for the Pusher Trilogy, disc 4 is the Gambler doc, and discs 5-7 are the Poul Nyrup films. I guess Second Sight is combining the content of the discs down to 3 discs.

Pretty frustrating that this is the one release they don't do dual-format when these films have never gotten decent Blu-ray releases, unlike say, The Innkeepers.

It's unlikely since it's with Lionsgate/A24, but they do have a close relationship with Sean Baker. Though I wouldn't sweat too much over a potential Criterion release since this already looks like a fantastic release.

I liked it originally but really soured on it on a recent rewatch a few months ago. The kids were just too insufferable and I didn't make it to the end.

I like it better than all other Baker movies I've seen but it's pretty shallow-y written for me and I've well documented my thoughts on Baker's portrayals of poverty versus reality. but I do think Dafoe is great in it as I said, not enough directors give him that kind of role. gun to my head to watch this or Anora, it wouldn't even remotely be a contest

I do want to say I really genuinely support this edition's sheer audacity with the amount of interviews it has. I genuinely really enjoy crew interviews and talking to as many people that were involved with a movie as possible - you get a lot more insight and stories than you'd expect. in some cases there's definitely repetition but I feel like a lot of times you hear way more unique perspectives. especially for a more modern film where the director may be fatigued talking about it over and over

For the exact same reason I bought the deluxe 4K special edition of Little Darlings, I'm buying this too.

The former was the first film that I snuck into underage, and the latter was the first film that my son snuck into underage - I felt that this was an important rite of passage for him.

And if someone brings out a similarly lavish edition of Crawl, that was his sister's equivalent.

(Coincidentally, both were set in Florida. Inevitably, that compelled me to look up where Little Darlings was set, but sadly it's not a hat trick.)

I’ve been reading 2 memoirs from ADs (Assistant Directors), and they’re packed with so many anecdotes and stories that have never appeared in articles or commentaries. I LOVE hearing from “below the line” people

Sometimes it's a matter of necessity - especially if the film's sixty or more years old, there's every chance the above-the-line talent will be either dead or unable to remember any useful details. But sometimes, as you correctly observe, it's a matter of acknowledging that crew members often have amazing stories that frequently haven't been heard before.

Take The Wrong Box's second AD Hugh Harlow. His job primarily involved making sure that the actors were present on set when they were needed. Pretty dull, you'd think - but not when he was dealing with an all-star cast and they all had their own particular foibles - Wilfrid Lawson wasn't to go anywhere near a pub, Ralph Richardson technically wasn't supposed to ride his beloved motorbike, but he made it very clear that he was going to anyway, so Harlow had to conceal this from insurance company reps, and so on.

At first glance these seem like better editions than what A24 is putting out, but as someone who enjoyed the trilogy (at least more than a lot of people on this forum!) the lack of a 4K release for X makes this a frustrating choice to make.

It’s really unfortunate that Entertainment in Video have the rights to X. MifuneFan / BR.com pointed out that they also have The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 and that’s why Arrow couldn’t release their remaster in the UK. A real shame that EiV are seemingly unwilling to cooperate with other labels but luckily the Capelight 4K of X is English-friendly and the text cards apparently weren’t translated.
