I doubt Imprint is doing anything without permission. It’s possible they traded an extra they produced with Criterion for the rights to use it, or paid a licensing fee, etc

I really doubt it. In the past Criterion has traded/licensed commentaries to studios but I can't think of them doing it with other boutiques as their asking price it too high.

It looks like this set also has a featurette, 25 Years of Terror, which reportedly has rights issues. Though I suppose those could have been cleared by now.

Criterion worked with Milestone to get permission to sell the Polish Masterpieces sets, and Milestone is way lower volume (at that time) than Imprint. Again, there’s no reason to think they’d steal an extra

I think that is a little different as Criterion has had a friendly relationship with Milestone for a long time.

I don't know, maybe Imprint did pay the crazy asking price for the commentary.

They’re using Criterion’s the 39 Steps commentary on the Early Hitchcock box, so they already have a relationship

not to my awareness, although Days of Heaven and Scarface really could've used Imprint's exclusives, and I'm sure there's others

Imprint using this makes me wonder if we can see more of Criterion licensing out extras in the future

It rarely happens, but they've done it in the past. IIRC the commentary they recorded with David Cronenberg for Dead Ringers was licensed out long after the Criterion DVD went out-of-print.

[FYI] I think someone has already mentioned it, but some of Criterion's OOP commentaries are available on Internet Archive (most notably those for the 007 laserdiscs) if you search for Criterion + commentary, but I don't see any for Hitchcock.

I think the Criterion commentaries for Blood for Dracula and Flesh for Frankenstein were on the Image Entertainment DVDs. But that was when Image was distributing Criterion's releases. So a pre-existing relationship.

What Dead Ringers release had the Criterion commentary?

Gary says it was a Dutch DVD release which apparently wasn't very good. (For starters, it had PAL speed up issues.)

The Canadian DVD also had it (TVA I think), but that's because it was a port of Criterion's disc

This brings to mind those Korean DVDs that were pretty much direct ports of the Criterion DVDs.

Anyone familiar with what the extended version of this film is? After a (an admittedly superficial) look around the place, I can’t find any reference to it elsewhere. It’s a whole 18 minutes longer.

Also, I can’t find anything reference as to whether the black and white version has any relation to what Dahl intended for the film.

Finally, after Imprint sells out a limited edition, how common is it for the business to release a regular version? Just give me the blu-ray of the restored theatrical version, please.

The longer cut was on the second disc of the old UK DVD set, I think sourced from the laserdisc. They should really present it as inserts into the restored version, but that’s probably way out of their budget for 1500 copies

A quick survey online regarding the Extended Version of The Last Seduction and it appears that the added footage didn't even go through post and even includes a time code on screen. I don't know where everyone falls on the "too distracting" train but the Imdb page mentions that it's quite distracting.

The Last Seduction is owned by ITV so it's a pretty big deal that Imprint got access to the OCN. My understanding is that Imprint is now the first Blu-ray label besides the defunct Network that has been able to restore an ITV title, although other labels have wanted to do that as well. Earlier Imprint has only received old HD masters of ITV titles through StudioCanal, right? Are things changing at ITV or is this some special one-off situation?

I had thought that the OCN didn’t even exist anymore. It almost never screens theatrically. The only print in the United States might be what is in UCLA’s Sundance collection
