I like the EWS cover but I do think just using the orgy mask would have made more people happy.

Ok, that’s appalling. I was thinking an actual photograph of the real thing on a black background (which would be terribly basic but, again, probably would avoid much of the griping).

No plans of buying it (love Kubrick but not this film) but I like the cover for EWS. Everyone's mileage obviously varies, but for me, there is nothing in this November's announcements. Been a solid year for Criterion on the whole, though.

I similarly am nonplussed about EWS, and remember it as a big let down when the Gen X Kubrick film arrived after much fanfare (the Chris Isaak trailer campaign was memorable), but this is a huge Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman/Kubrick movie that people are still talking about...so yeah, huge and anticipated...just not by us. To return to the discussion, the cover does look half-baked...the red C looking like a weird finial to the red box. But cool about the historical relevance.

I wonder if we’re going to be getting a mid-cycle box set announcement for this reason, but Wes Anderson may be the big box for the year

And as a whole this coming November's releases are not the big name, seminal films we usually get for the month... As for the cover I love is El. Very foreboding. And good grief, the Hell's Angel cover. That may be A Jean Harlow but it's not THE Jean Harlow

I'd argue that the CRUISE KIDMAN KUBRICK bit in that specific font is the most key and consistent part of the film's marketing going all the way back to the very first TV ads. More so than the mirror image or the mask. Not to mention that Criterion is almost certainly contractually obligated to have them on the cover.

Yeah, the names most likely are contractually obligated to be on the cover, so no getting around including them.

seems unlikely they would announce another box, that may affect Wes sales this holiday, at least until the Flash & B&N sales are done for the year.

Aside of the size of this set, it looks at least like the individual packagings aren't any weird too-inventive slot-based thing, but simple digibooks. Which is nice, and practical.

Pee Wee cover is excellent

I want to give the Pee-Wee cover the benefit of the doubt, but I just don’t feel like it’s evocative of the film’s tone, or even Pee-Wee in general, at all.

I was truly surprised to see they went with a cover that WASN'T drawn by Gary Panter. It would've been a little more chaotic than the cutesy cover they went with. It's more Golden Books than 80s underground.
