I had this on DVD but can't find it to my dismay. I remember liking it a lot (Lyonne, Arkin, Tomei and Krumholtz were all great). Keep hoping for a Blu-ray because I can't bring myself to rebuy a non-anamorphic DVD.domino harvey wrote: Real ones remember her in Slums of Beverly Hills (which, actually, would fit right in with Criterion’s recent focus areas, if they can pry it away from Disney) first

Criterion on Social Media
Every couple of months I’ll list my hypothetical Tamara Jenkins box in the quarantined monthly guessing thread, containing Slums, The Savages and Private Life. Figure if I do it often enough, I’ll will it into existence.domino harvey wrote:Real ones remember her in Slums of Beverly Hills (which, actually, would fit right in with Criterion’s recent focus areas, if they can pry it away from Disney) first— she actually had a lot of buzz with that film that never really materialized into the more belated success she’s enjoying these days. Different strokes indeed (I assume you view Peter Falk’s shtick in a similar way), although I must ask if you’ve seen But I’m a Cheerleader because to me it’s the one that made me fall in love with her with her delivering a wonderfully campy & lovely performance.
Maybe Natasha’s closet visit is this finally happening.

I'd definitely second a box set especially if it included Jenkins' shorts Fugitive Love and Family Remains.

Now that's how to do a closet appearance! Has anyone pulled more titles than her? If so, not likely to have beaten the rate at which she pulls them down. Hopefully this indicates Slums Of Beverly Hills which I have been begging for years, but unfortunately I fear it might be But I'm A Cheerleader which seems to get thrown on to the channel for Pride month every year (with so many neglected queer films, the fall back to this title all the time is a bit irksome).

Want to think she grabbed those by the handful as well and flew down the street like Elsbeth Tascioni's terminally hip chaotic evil twin.

Funniest (or drollest - take your pick) closet video yet - Cavett came prepared with quips.FrauBlucher wrote: Mon Jul 07, 2025 9:50 pm Can't get any better than this. Dick Cavett in the closet

How many have already been included as extras? Maybe it’s just a thank you.

Husbands certainly has the most infamous one
I think Cavett might be the only person Woody Allen has provided a book blurb for

FWIW, Dick Cavett taped something like 470 episodes of a show that generally ran 90 minutes. They could do a 'best of" compilation which is what you get from the out-of-print DVD's, but it wouldn't be feasible to do anything approaching a complete set.

Re: Criterion on Social Media
There is a Dick Cavett Show YouTube channel featuring many of his interviews, don’t think they would duplicate it on disc, particularly when there’s so much more of the Golden Age Of Television to mine if they want to rescue old television.

Re: Criterion on Social Media
I wouldn’t be entirely dismissive of the idea. YouTube is one thing but having a physical set of upgraded to 2k or higher of these shows/interviews would be right up Criterion’s alley. Especially with Cavett still around to give his input. Who else but him has given the world a glimpse of these stars of film and music that didn’t really exist at that time. It would make a terrific time capsule. Besides CC just released The Big Heat for the umpteenth time. Even though I bought it was it really needed on the market once more?

Seems like a better fit for the Criterion Streaming service. They could even cycle them, to keep up interest.

It's actually really sweet to hear Cronenberg talk about his friendship with David Lynch and for him to say Lynch died too young.
Here's Lena Dunham's video and picks. Also Charles Burnett and Ryan Coogler.

That's a pretty amazing story. (As is the one on The Manchurian Candidate.)
Not surprisingly one of them has a "Library Copy" sticker on it. I imagine they have more copies otherwise they wouldn't have let it go.

Peter Wolf in the closet. Not aware of any film credits for him offhand outside of possible soundtrack inclusions.

Living with David Lynch and marrying Faye Dunaway are probably his two biggest claims to fame in cinema history, which ain't too shabby for something that doesn't actually involve filmmaking.Lowry_Sam wrote: Mon Aug 25, 2025 11:33 pm Peter Wolf in the closet.
