Warner Film Noir Collections

#251 Post by reaky »

I don’t think Macao formed part of any of Warners’ film noir collections, but I thought this might be a good place to record that I popped on the standalone DVD this evening, and it got as far as minute 56 before expiring. Disc rot or something.

I’d prompt any owners of that set to check their discs. Pity, I was looking forward to the commentary on Sternberg’s treatment of the cast.

A man named Mike Malloy becomes obsessed with a short lived radio detective who shares his name, and begins tracking all the cross references between projects made by those involved, including the recurrences of references to Raymond Burr and Steve Brodie in Mann’s Desperate. I found this video unexpectedly touching in how it highlights little details and stories of bit players and creatives working in virtually forgotten projects all randomly exhumed by a mere quirk of a shared name decades apart
