I like the inner Musketeers illustration but WHY the black bars? It feels like such a poorly fan-made cover design choice.

To match the ugly black spine. Question: Is this epic fail + epic fail... or is it epic fail x epic fail? I personally would say it multiplies the error... but 1+1 is greater than 1x1 so go figure. Math itself might be an epic failure.

Yeah, that one shows some good imagination. I absolutely love the Confucian Confusion and Mahjong cover! Both artists are new to me so I'll definitely look up more of their work.

Yeah that’s a great cover too. Wish they tried harder with Shoeshine— I know they’re trying to make it match their Bicycle Thieves release but it is designed like a menu for a burger place where fries cost extra

the Edward Yang cover is terrific. makes up for a few shortcomings with the release. always happy with the native title makes the cover, especially with 漢字 titles (showing my bias)

Shoeshine is comically bland. I'm not a de Sica fan but even I was pleased when they tried with Miracle in Milan

EDIT: I just zoomed in on Compensation's cover. my comment above about native titles certainly applies! what a cool touch!

I wonder if the cover has anything to do with the handdrawn character designs Yang made for Confucian Confusion. Seems like that would be an easy point of reference. (You can see some here if you scroll down: https://www.biosmonthly.com/article/11309)

I'm not sure about that Cairo Station cover. I get it. But there is a charm to the story of the black and white. I'm forgiving of most covers, but that is the first where I don't think it works.

Same. Can't fault them for wanting to showcase Hind Rostom, but the whole thing is very generic. Kinda like the font though.

Otomo!! Wow!!

(I didn't realize he created this artwork for the Japanese release in 2018. It's wonderful.)

I'm just overly relieved we're getting Isle of Dogs and French Dispatch as invidual blu-ray releases

Its nice that the boxset is the most Wes Anderson thing i've ever seen but I've enjoyed having all this nice art on these releases.

Does the French Dispatch cover have the entire cast? If so that feels like some kind of record Criterion could call into Guinness about

Couldn’t find Jarvis Cocker or Christoph Waltz when I looked.

I think it might’ve just accidentally been cropped out of the cover art. If you look closely, the globe is positioned closer to the bottom for the French Dispatch cover compared to the other covers.

I actually figured it out immediately after hitting “submit” on my previous post - the release years are all at the top of each cover!

Per the email, Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch's solo releases will be housed in digipaks

Four digipaks??!?? That’s the most in a while. I love em’ hopefully they do not house the discs in slots.
