Is Tuxedo Warrior the film directed by Andrew Sinclair (Breaking of Bumbo, Under Milk Wood, and Blue Blood)? I think that was based on Twemlow's memoirs. Also been on Sky Movies I think.
I joked about a Twemlow box set in the Michael J. Murphy thread but at least Twemlow had some kind of recognition within low budget filmmaking circles. Apparently the end credit music of Granada's Crown Court was composed by him under a pseudonym.
colinr0380 wrote: Fri Apr 18, 2025 12:17 pmIf only Garth Marenghi knew he had competition!
Maybe Cliff's The Assassinator (alternative title for The Hitman) was an inspiration for The Reprisalizer in Matthew Holness' short film A Gun For George: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq0xt_gbVH0
Severin is also doing a Cliff Twemlow bundle with three very Garth Marenghi-esque appearing novels: The Tuxedo Warrior memoir, as mentioned by jlnight above:
Severin Films wrote:There are many ways in which a Doorman can gain respect. Numerous methods applied to the principal. In my profession, every available technique must be utilized depending on the situation and circumstances.
Would-be transgressors either move off the premises quietly acknowledging your diplomatic approach, or the other alternative whereby physical persuasion has to be exercised, which either quells their pugilistic desires or triggers off their more aggressive instincts, turning the whole incident into a bloody and violent encounter.
The Tuxedo Warrior pulls no punches in its brawling, savage, colorful and entertaining exposure into Society's nightlife activities.
The Pike, obviously riffing on Jaws from the write up:
Severin Films wrote:One by one, the mysterious killer in Lake Windermere claims its terrified victims. Tearing off limbs with its monstrous teeth, horribly mutilating bodies.
Fear sweeps the peaceful holiday resort when experts identify the creature as a giant pike... a hellish creature with the strength to rupture boats — and the anger to attack them.
But for some, the terror becomes a bonanza — the traders who cater to the gathering crowds of ghouls on the shore. And they will do anything to stop the divers finding the killer.
Meanwhile, the ripples of bloodshed widen...
and The Beast of Kane:
Severin Films wrote:When the Gordon family open their door to a stray elk-hound, they unwittingly welcome in the forces of evil. For, according to the local priest, the huge dog is Satan himself, fulfilling an ancient prophecy.
But no one will believe this warning... Even when sheep — and wolves — are mysteriously slaughtered. Even when frenzied pets turn on their owners. Even when Emily Forrest is savagely eaten alive — the first of many human victims.
As winter tightens its icy grip on the remote town of Kane, its unprotected people must face an unearthly terror.
Who would've thought? Severin is putting out Peter Medak's debut Negatives (1968). I've had this
as a crummy VHS copy (which looked like someone had videotaped a television screen) for years.
Also releasing The Odd Job and The Ghost of Peter Sellers

Yes, they were listed as the distributor when these films screened at a big retrospective at the American Cinematheque. Negatives did get a VHS release from Paramount, which is remarkable given its obscurity
Its great to see Peter Medak getting some attention. I would have imagined that would have to have been entirely up to BFI Flipside, so it is good to see other labels stepping into this area of obscure British films.
I'm also very excited about that set of four rare Lamberto Bava productions for Italian television, which seems as if it may be this year's equivalent of Severin's "Dario Argento: Deep Cuts" set from last year.
Italian Gothic takes some very unexpected turns down cobwebbed corridors with this all-new quartet of classics, now restored in UHD for the first time ever: Queen of Italian Horror Barbara Steele stars in Massimo Pupillo’s grisly TERROR-CREATURES FROM THE GRAVE, presented in both its U.S. and Italian versions on 3 discs. Director Filippo Walter Ratti melds classic gothic tropes with explicit ‘70s sexuality in NIGHT OF THE DAMNED. Mark Damon and Rosalba Neri consummate the ultimate Satanic mayhem in THE DEVIL’S WEDDING NIGHT from director Luigi Batzella and cinematographer/2nd unit director Joe D’Amato. And Hollywood legend Carroll Baker stars in Corrado Farina’s pop art erotic shocker BABA YAGA, a 4-disc set that includes the first-ever release of a Piero Umiliani soundtrack compilation. All four films have been scanned in 4K from their original camera negatives with more than 12 hours of new and archival Special Features curated exclusively for this collection
Severin has started announcing the new titles for their Summer Sale at the end of the month

I am curious about the Lamberto Bava, and maybe about revisitng Baskin although I remember being rather underwhelmed by Baskin when I sort it on a television screening almost a decade ago. I unearthed my brief Letterboxd review from the time, which includes major spoilers:
Spoiler
A strange mind-bending Turkish horror. Stylishly shot and features some culturally quirky elements, but there's not really much of a plot here, especially once it devolves into a succession of Satanic-style torture sequences in the second half.
It also has a circular structure that was pretty obviously going to occur from the very first moment of the group of cops starting off at the creepy diner before leaving for the 'main act' with that situation left unresolved. (Its the familar "oh no, it's happening again!" set up of the 1945 Dead of Night, or any number of Amicus anthology films). That situation can really work if there is a new twist put onto it, but here its just used for closure. It also got aggravating that the film kept jumping back to the one character's hallucinations of the diner conversations, which also made it feel quite stop-and-start.
But perhaps worse is that it feels like an unconsidered gay panic film, in which our butch cops get tied down and have naked, literally monstrous, men take advantage of them (and lots of strange sexual stuff involving the lead character continually going back to the corridor outside of his parent's bedroom and overhearing them in coitis!). I'm not sure the film explored those elements enough after bringing them up to feel as if it has anything to say about them one way or the other, and I was left a little unsure as to whether that was something consciously intended by the film or not!
But I was distracted by things going on in my real life at the time to give it my full attention and therefore a fair shot, so may need to give it another chance to see if it affects me differently on a revisit. I seem to remember that it also has a relatively early example of what became an enormous trope in the 2010s/early 2020's horror scene (which I guess must have been kicked off in earnest with the old lady in her negligee going on the attack in [Rec]) of the generational terror of semi (or completely) naked elderly people being used as the terrifying ultimate monster of all!

I am curious about the Lamberto Bava
I would wait for a sale. You would never imagine the director of this cheap, languorous, talky film is the same guy who would make Demons immediately after.
In a shared career that has included EuroCult classics like HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD, RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR, ZOMBIE 4, SHOCKING DARK, ROBOWAR and beyond, this explosive 1993 drama from director Claudio Fragasso and his screenwriter/life partner Rossella Drudi is unlike anything they’ve ever done and their most unexpected triumph of all: Marco (Gianmarco Tognazzi of Lamberto Bava’s GRAVEYARD DISTURBANCE) is an unemployed 22-year-old stoner who still lives at home with his mother. But when he’s drawn to a local group of neo-Nazis, their escalating violence towards immigrants and minorities will collide with his growing relationship with a beautiful African woman. Franca Bettoia (THE LAST MAN ON EARTH) and Flavio Bucci (SUSPIRIA) co-star in this powerful shocker, now scanned in 4K from the original camera negative with Special Features that include a full-length in-depth documentary on the production and its legacy.
Special Features for SKINHEADS:
• In The Name Of Hate – Feature-Length Documentary With Director Claudio Fragasso; Co-Writer Rossella Drudi; Actors Gianmarco Tognazzi, Stefano Molinari And Giulio Base; Composer Sergio Cammariere; Art Director Claudio Bissattini; Editor Ugo De Rossi; Uncredited Replacement DP Nino Celeste; Stuntman Massimo Vanni; And Prop Master Vincenzo Luzzi

Rats: Night of Terror is not a good film by any means but it contains, unironically one of my favorite endings of all time based solely on it's "What the hell?" factor.

For his final work, Godfather of Mondo Franco E. Prosperi – writer/director of MONDO CANE, AFRICA: BLOOD AND GUTS and GOODBYE UNCLE TOM – took on the ‘Nature Strikes Back’ genre and delivered perhaps the most shocking movie of his controversial career, now in UHD for the first time ever: When PCP gets into the water supply of a city zoo, the drug-crazed beasts – including tigers, lions, cheetahs, hyenas and elephants, as well as seeing eye dogs and sewer rats – go berserk and rampage through the streets of Frankfurt. What follows is a terrifying mix of actual animal attacks (supervised by professional circus trainers) and over-the-top ‘80s Italian gore that remains “the greatest eco-revenge shocker in EuroCult history” (DVD Beaver). Lorraine De Selle (CANNIBAL FEROX, HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK) and Ugo Bologna (NIGHTMARE CITY) star in “the very definition of an exploitation movie” (Daily Grindhouse), newly scanned in 4K from the original camera negative.

Excellent! If you do not mind spoilers (though this is the kind of film where even spoiling it still leaves you needing to see it for yourself!) I wrote up Wild Beasts here back when it was first released on Blu-ray.
It's the moment '80s teen movies turned
"dangerous" (Rue Morgue), "unflinching" (Dread Central) and "all too real" (Cool Ass Cinema). Now this "dark, forbidding vision" (Los Angeles Times) from Penelope Spheeris - director of THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION Trilogy as well as WAYNE'S WORLD - and screenwriters Glen Morgan & James Wong - creators of FINAL DESTINATION and writers/producers of The X-Files - comes to UHD for the first time ever: Maxwell Caulfield and Charlie Sheen star as high school outcasts who head to Los Angeles for a spree of petty crime, senseless violence and savage murder that is "fast, angry and what a genuine punk torpedo should be" (Blu-ray. com). Patti D'Arbanville (BILITIS) and Christopher McDonald (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM) co-star in this
"descent into hell" (Birth.Movies.Death.) featuring music by Iggy Pop, Tex & The Horseheads and The Cramps, now scanned in 4K from the original camera negative.
