It’s such a sad state of affairs that we can’t get a straight answer from Netflix or Criterion about what’s preventing a physical release. It would seem like such a no-brainer.

The film played for a week at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor as a DCP in early November 2018… only after being arranged by Philip Hallman, the head of the University of Michigan’s Special Collections library, who felt it deserved a theatrical run. The Sunday afternoon screening I attended attracted about twelve other people.

Even Hopper/Welles has ended up online. I’d love a stacked release that includes a 4K of the rough cut Gary Graver screened for years
