At least its more interesting genre nonsense than Thor!
And whilst it is a neat touch, really the black-and-white versus colour thing in a mystery thriller motif was done the most impressively a few years earlier in the desaturation as events move towards the climax of the 1988 remake of D.O.A., which I'd love to revisit some time together with the 1950 original.
I love the remake of D.O.A.. Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid were a rare married couple who actually had a lot of chemistry on screen
Compared to the Blue Underground Blu Ray, the new Kino Blu Ray of "The 7th Victim" seems to have a green look, as if it was Ritrovata'd. Can someone comment on whether this is the intended look, and whether Ritrovata was involved in the restoration?

Starring Breckin Meyer, Seann William Scott, Amy Smart, Tom Green, DJ Qualls, Paulo Costanzo, Rachel Blanchard, Anthony Rapp, Andy Dick, Horatio Sanz & Fred Ward – Shot by Mark Irwin (Scream) – Music by Michael Simpson (Fight Club) – Produced by Ivan Reitman (Animal House) – Co-written by Scot Armstrong (Semi-Pro) –Co-written & Directed by Todd Phillips (Old School, The Hangover, Due Date, War Dogs, Joker).
I missed that most of these even got released in the past couple years, but some exciting 30s and 40s German titles are included: Port of Freedom, Congress Dances, and Ophüls’ Laughing Heirs. Plus, for students of the blacklist, John Berry’s Tamango — filmed in France, banned in the US and just about everywhere else — is $7.

Anyone know if Kino's Blu-ray for Quai des Orfèvres is better or worse than Studio Canal's? Or if Criterion is likely to pick this up?
Such a great film. I've been waiting for Criterion to get this one back to upgrade it, and they may as well do it 4K to top the Kino. I've seen a couple complaints about no subtitling for the songs in the film on the Kino disc. However, it looks great to my eyes, and it has a solid commentary by Nick Pinkerton. The extras on the Studio Canal look sparse.

domino harvey wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2017 6:55 pmUncommon Valor (Ted Kotcheff 1983) Gene Hackman is determined to rescue his Vietnam vet son from a POW camp in this ridiculous precursor to Rambo. Hackman guilts several of his son’s fellow soldiers into abandoning their lives by going on a suicide mission, which is preceded by a lengthy bootcamp in which the out of action soldiers receive training that makes it look like summer camp. For experienced soldiers, these dudes practiced so little in the way of responsible gun handling during these sequences that it started to stress me out, even though this film isn’t smart enough to criticize such behavior. And that’s the larger problem with the film itself: I don’t find this brand of brainless bravura heroic at all, but selfish and foolhardy. I also object to sequences like a gunfight against armed Laotian police guarding the border, who believe Hackmen and his crew are opium runners. Hackman and team gleefully shoot the policemen and lament when two get away. But these aren’t the bad guys. These are police officers doing their job and trying to keep out bad guys with guns, and Hackmen and company attack first. These are the assholes I’m supposed to be rooting for?
It does work well though if watched in a double bill with the almost forgotten Kevin Dillon film The Rescue, which just swaps out the baddies and "Taken 2's" things around to have the kids saving the adults instead!

More OOP based on previously being in the "While Supplies Last" sale and now no longer appearing on the website:
Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here (1969)
I’d love to see Criterion pick this one up and rescue Polonsky’s Force of Evil, too

This already has a 4K-restored blu-ray from Kino. Criterion could add their one-essay leaflet whenever they get around to it but I'm satisfied with my copy.

Didn’t it get a lot of criticism for having a sub-par transfer? Regsrdlesss, Willie Boy is fascinating
