Giving it all to Megalopolis would even be a little more adventurous than the taking-candy-from-a-baby of giving it to Madame Web. But also I like Madame Web more than I like Megalopolis, Dakota Johnson "winning" is yet another confirmation they obsessively read the press and never actually watch the movies.

“Obsessively reads the press” seems like giving them way too much credit … the most these cretins do is half-listen to Hollywood gossip. The Narrator Returns wrote:Giving it all to Megalopolis would even be a little more adventurous than the taking-candy-from-a-baby of giving it to Madame Web. I struggled with whether to go for Conclave as Best Picture but if it wins, I do think Rossellini wins, so we'll know early. I also feel we're going to get a surprise or two, but we're due for a total WTF win so I picked the least likely one to take it for Supporting Actress because I still don't believe Saldana is undeniable in the sinking ship

Re: Awards Season 2024
that's what I'm thinking too. plus all the EP controversy was before voting started, which wasn't the case for a lot of the guilds. Saldana absolutely stands a good chance to be it's only win, but I could also see them going total shutout. the anonymous ballots mean nothing but I was stunned by how many picked Rossellini, which would be a lot of fun. I just decided to go with it, especially since Chalamet wouldn't be all that shocking after the SAG windomino harvey wrote: Sat Mar 01, 2025 1:25 am I struggled with whether to go for Conclave as Best Picture but if it wins, I do think Rossellini wins, so we'll know early. lots of people seem to think Fernanda Torres could be the big WTF win and I personally fear for comment and reply sections everywhere if that's the case. it makes sense, since she wasn't nominated in basically any other award so far, so maybe.. but I've stuck with Moore this entire time and will continue to do so, I'm Still Here snatching international feature handily is already a big enough win for it

Thanks for the alert, Ryan. I'll be combing through the last few pages of the thread just before the ceremony and altering your ballots based on any time-stamps I see, but it would be extremely helpful if folks can either bold/italicize/make some note of what your changes were, do what Ryan did, or PM me or something, just so I don't need to compare every category. This is only for those who change their predixryannichols7 wrote: Sat Mar 01, 2025 1:06 am amended mine to switch to Isabella Rossellini. I'm not convinced there's any real movement for Torres as a viable alternative to Moore or Madison. The last international winner in this category was Cotillard and she had a lot of industry support in Hollywood leading up to the win, which I haven't really seen as fully for Torres

Changing my vote for Editing to Conclave - seems like it's got a broader appeal than I anticipated. If it wins there, Best Picture will start to get interesting very quickly.

Re: Awards Season 2024
I haven't watched a full on Academy Award ceremony since I waited for Robert Altman's lifetime achievement award. And afterJoan passed away, I failed to keep up with red carpet coverage. But I am somewhat curious to see a perpetual goof like Conan awkwardly seque to somber wildfire coverage, or the memorial death reel. Not sure I've ever seen him be serious. Jay Leno bumping him for segment would be a funny way to cap off the storyline once and for all.

I’d be optimistic if it was the Conan of 1995-2000ish, not the sad, flailing, variety show-obsessed one we have today
I also eagerly awaited that Altman award. What a spectacular montage they cut for him

I've updated the original post, but if people could make any changes by 5pm EST (rather than 7pm, as previously stated), that would be awesome. I won't be checking updated lists past then. Sorry for any inconvenience

Re: Awards Season 2024
It feels like an inevitable winner, but I’m a little skeptical. It still has no U.S. distribution, and it’s not swept the precursors. I’m sticking my neck out that it’s going to lose, and I’ll feel a little foolish if it doesn’t, but something about that category keeps nagging at me.

Really thrilled with how many people are 'playing' this year, over double last year's turnout!

Re: Awards Season 2024
you're welcome. I did it again, notably switching editing to Conclave (not sure how I missed the first time?) and I'm actually gonna say it...I have a feeling Baker wins director but the movie wins nothing else, ala Power of the Dog with Campion a few years ago. Corbet is probably gonna win, I was originally very confident, but I feel like taking a gamble there. I still have quite a bet on The Substance taking original screenplay too...I think they're gonna award its originality, and that's an easy way for them to do so. but the screenplay winners feel very locked intherewillbeblus wrote: Sat Mar 01, 2025 1:32 amThanks for the alert, Ryan. I have a weird feeling we're gonna see some wild upsets, just the way this season has gone
also after finally seeing it, I stand firm by Rossellini, if nothing else because she gives a genuine supporting performance. Saldana is blatant category fraud, and between the Gascon controversy and category fraud, I really think we could see Rossellini squeak this out
I definitely agree, but that point made about it not being in competition with the others yet did kinda make sense, but Cotillard was a wholly different level. I predicted Penelope Cruz a few years ago for Parallel Mothers and obviously that got zero traction too. Moore feels like she has this in the bag, with Madison as a secondary.domino harvey wrote: Sat Mar 01, 2025 2:15 am I'm not convinced there's any real movement for Torres as a viable alternative to Moore or Madison. The last international winner in this category was Cotillard and she had a lot of industry support in Hollywood leading up to the win, which I haven't really seen as fully for Torres
after seeing the movie finally, I see exactly why it has the broad appeal it does. not only does it feel like a BP winner, it should win BP. tonight could be a lot more fun than I ever expected when I initially posted on page 2 of this thread!soundchaser wrote: Sat Mar 01, 2025 5:02 pm Changing my vote for Editing to Conclave - seems like it's got a broader appeal than I anticipated. If it wins there, Best Picture will start to get interesting very quickly.

Isn't Gal Gadot awarding the Best Documentary Feature? Should be a laugh if so.

I believe that is only a twitter joke, but would be a riot if it happens. No Other Land would be an all time significant winnerthirtyframesasecond wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 9:30 pm Isn't Gal Gadot awarding the Best Documentary Feature? Should be a laugh if so.
we are also three pages longer than last year, and it's funny since last year was one of the more well regarded years too. I guess we knew Oppenheimer had more in the bag theretherewillbeblus wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 8:59 pm Really thrilled with how many people are 'playing' this year, over double last year's turnout!
a good pool for next year would be betting on Best Picture presenter. hoping for June Squibb on that one
