I wonder what the other two are? I would be shocked if they didn't try to get their hands on Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and maybe Mudhoney. However, I am curious if other labels are also making deals with the Meyer estate. I know with the Severin deal, the Meyer estate had several unique rules. I read somewhere that one of their big stipulations was the Vixen trilogy had to use the VHS covers Meyer had designed back in the 80s for their VHS releases.

Severin announced a re-release of the Blood Island collection
Between 1959 and 1971, Filipino filmmakers Eddie Romero and Gerry de León – along with Hemisphere Pictures marketing consultant Samuel M. Sherman – unleashed THE BLOOD ISLAND FILMS, a monsters-and-mayhem quartet that remains among the most deliriously schlocky classics in horror history. The two-disc set of all four films – scanned uncut in 4K with improved color and audio plus over 8 combined hours of special features – is available exclusively at the Severin Films Webstore with pre-order beginning today.

The Blood Island series launched with TERROR IS A MAN, a “quite terrifying” (The New York Times) take on The Island Of Dr. Moreau starring Francis Lederer (THE RETURN OF DRACULA). BRIDES OF BLOOD stars John Ashley (THE TWILIGHT PEOPLE) and Beverly Powers (SPEEDWAY) in a taboo-smashing orgy of violence, nudity and depraved nuptials. Ashley and Angelique Pettyjohn (THE CURIOUS FEMALE) star in MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND, “one of the greatest, nastiest, goriest films of the 1960s” (Dangerous Minds). BEAST OF BLOOD stars Ashley and Celeste Yarnall (THE VELVET VAMPIRE) in “the most exciting and aggressive of all the BLOOD ISLAND movies” (1000 Misspent Hours), newly scanned from a 35mm print by the Library of Congress.

Starting to wonder if they were denied Faster Pussycat, or at least waiting to see if sales of the others could command a higher licensing fee

They were denied it in this first round of licensing, but it may be coming in the future - see here for more details on Severin's deal with the Meyer estate.

Yes, they were initially allowed to license five titles, which we now know were Motor Psycho, Vixen, Supervixens, Up! and Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens.

But this is standard practice when licensing lots of titles from the same rightsholder - understandably, they want to make sure that the label is doing a decent job with them before letting them have access to any more. Although on the strength of the first three (which look incredible), it wouldn't surprise me at all if more were going to be on the way.

Incidentally, David Gregory has confirmed that the two latest Meyer titles will also get UK releases.

Thanks for the info Michael.
I’ve never seen Motor Psycho so I’m keen to finally check it out.

Up! is fun if a little too cartoony for me. Really curious what titles they will put out next…

Really excited for Motor Psycho. Recently rewatched my old DVD copy of it and I came out of it thinking that it was one of Meyer’s strongest works. Upset that Mudhoney or Lorna wasn’t the other title, but I am happy we are getting Up!

Bring on more Russ Severin!

House of Psychotic Women: Rarities Collection Volume 2 [4-Disc Blu-ray Box Set]
In this second collection inspired by her “groundbreaking” (Screen Anarchy) book that “forever changed the landscape of film analysis” (Bloody Disgusting), producer/curator Kier-La Janisse presents a new quartet of international classics – along with nearly 11 combined hours of Special Features – that explores startling depictions of female neurosis on screen: Amanda Plummer gives a searing performance as a disturbed drifter on a cross-country killing spree in BUTTERFLY KISS, the breakthrough debut from director Michael Winterbottom. Legendary Czech actress Iva Janžurová portrays a pair of rival sisters in Juraj Herz’ crazed gothic melodrama MORGIANA. In Ben Maddow, Sidney Meyers and Joseph Strick’s ‘dramatized documentary’ THE SAVAGE EYE, Barbara Baxley stars as a bitter divorcee adrift in Los Angeles’ dark underbelly. And with the landmark Spanish thriller THE GLASS CEILING starring Carmen Sevilla, writer/director Eloy de la Iglesia crafts an unsettling story of paranoia, madness and murder. All 4 films in HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN RARITIES COLLECTION VOLUME 2 have been scanned from their original camera negatives and are presented on Blu-ray for the first time ever in North America.

Disc 1: BUTTERFLY KISS (1994)
In his “breathtakingly original” (Variety) debut feature, writer/director Michael Winterbottom (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE, THE KILLER INSIDE ME) shocked audiences with the startling drama The New York Times called “a twisted British answer to THELMA & LOUISE”: Amanda Plummer (PULP FICTION) delivers “a brave performance that sears itself permanently into the viewer's consciousness” (Austin Chronicle) as a disturbed drifter whose seduction of a lonely convenience store clerk (an equally daring Saskia Reeves of Slow Horses) triggers a cross-country odyssey of obsession, madness and murder. Ricky Tomlinson (RIFF-RAFF) co-stars in this “provocative masterpiece” (The Advocate) co-written by 2x BAFTA nominee Frank Cottrell-Boyce (WELCOME TO SARAJEVO) and featuring cinematography by 2x Oscar® nominee Seamus McGarvey (ATONEMENT), now scanned in 2K from the original camera negative by The British Film Institute and approved by Winterbottom and McGarvey.

Disc 2: MORGIANA (1972)
From internationally award-winning filmmaker Juraj Herz (THE CREMATOR, THE NINTH HEART) comes this “haunting” (Senses Of Cinema), “gorgeously baroque” (Starburst) and “deliriously exciting cult gem” (Culture Fix), considered to be the final film of the Czech New Wave: When their wealthy father dies, cruelly jealous Viktorie will lead her naïvely trusting sister Klára – both portrayed in “a frightening, stellar performance” (At The Mansion Of Madness) by legendary Czech actress Iva Janžurová – into a gothic nightmare of deception, blackmail and murder. Josef Abrhám (Václav Havel’s LEAVING) and Josef Somr (CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS) co-star in this “terrific chamber piece that horror fans still haven't caught up to” (Mondo Digital), newly scanned in 4K from the original camera negative by The National Film Archive in Prague.

Disc 3: THE SAVAGE EYE (1959)
In 1959, a trio of outsider filmmakers – formerly blacklisted screenwriter Ben Maddow (THE ASPHALT JUNGLE), Oscar® nominated editor/director Sidney Meyers (THE QUIET ONE) and future Oscar® winning director Joseph Strick (INTERVIEWS WITH MY LAI VETERANS) – wrote, produced, edited and directed the ‘dramatized documentary’ that San Francisco Cinematheque calls “a masterpiece of verité cinema”: Adrift and bitter after her recent divorce, a woman (Barbara Baxley of NORMA RAE and NASHVILLE) confronts the grim realities of existence amongst the poetic grotesqueries of urban Los Angeles. The voice of Gary Merrill (ALL ABOUT EVE) co-stars in this “unique and unusual must-see” (FilmFanatic) – filmed on location by a team of cinematographers that included 2x Academy Award® winner Haskell Wexler (MEDIUM COOL) – now scanned in 4K by Severin Films from the original camera negative provided by the Academy Film Archive.

Disc 4: THE GLASS CEILING (1971)
In his landmark 1971 feature, writer/director Eloy de la Iglesia – who would go on to create such subversively disturbing films as CANNIBAL MAN, THE CREATURE and the Quinqui classics NAVAJEROS and EL PICO 1 & 2 – brought an unnerving new perspective to female madness: When her husband leaves on a business trip, a frustrated housewife – an award-winning performance by Carmen Sevilla, star of CROSS OF THE DEVIL and NO ONE HEARD THE SCREAM – begins to obsess over unfamiliar noises in their apartment building and suspects that an upstairs neighbor has committed murder. Dean Selmier (THE BLOOD SPATTERED BRIDE), Patty Shepard (CRYPT OF THE LIVING DEAD), Fernando Cebrián (TRISTANA) and Emma Cohen (HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB) co-star in this milestone Spanish thriller, now scanned in 4K from the original camera negative.

The Savage Eye is fantastic. I keep praying that Joseph Strick’s Road Movie will get a release, and it seems like Severin would be the company to give it the attention it deserves. It would make a great pairing with the excellent Butterfly Kiss!

I received my copy of In My Skin today, several weeks earlier than expected. I don't know what to look for in terms of technical details the way many here can, but I would say it looks fine enough. There is still a lot of scratches visible and some digital noise, but I'm not expecting a pristine image.

One thing, however, is that I will continue to have to cling to my Wellspring DVD because it has two short films by De Van that are not on the Severin disc: Alias and Psy-show. The latter is one of my favorite short films of that era. On the Severin disc, there are two student shorts by De Van (not on the Wellspring DVD) and then, for some reason, two shorts by other filmmakers thematically related to De Van's. If anyone from Radiance is reading this thread, you have a chance to better Severin's disc simply by including those two missing shorts and by making a less eccentric choice for the subtitle font (which is mercifully white here and not yellow).

The reason, FWIW:
Kier-La Janisse wrote:Originally [In My Skin] was supposed to be in the [House of Psychotic Women] box set so I didn't curate Psy-show as it didn't fit the theme as much, and Alias I did try to get but it couldn't be delivered in time.

sounds to me like there's no reason Radiance won't include them on their (assumed) release. it seems to me Severin moved this out of the box and to its own 4K when they learned the UK release was happening. as they've already buried some other titles in the Folk Horror boxes that have standalone UK discs, probably wanting to prevent the same mistake...

This is really incredible news. Ridiculous as it sounds due to them being Andy Milligan movies. I really love his early bitter bitchy dramas but so many of them are lost so finding two is a big deal! Hopefully they live up to his reputation!

Also - has anyone here seen any Cliff Twemlow movies? Severin’s trailer makes them look awful, but I’m hoping they have some redeeming qualities within!

They have been extremely hard to see, even in the UK. I have only just recently managed to see G.B.H. through a YouTube rip (which is tellingly down now), which is an interesting shot-on-video Manchester set gangster film (with an amusing riff on the James Bond theme for its opening titles!) and is most famous for coming close to the fringes of the Video Nasty situation in the UK by getting on the Section 3 list, so hopefully this boxset (which should include the 1991 sequel Lethal Impact) will be the opportunity to assess the entire body of work. But I think it should be more approached as part of Severin's sterling effort to bring a lot of these more obscure 'video nasty' titles back into circulation than for any indicator of the quality of said titles!

Something that we have not mentioned in the passages thread is that one of the actors in G.B.H. (and who also appears in Twelmlow's written and starring early 90s horror film The Eye of Satan - that's the one I am most looking forward to seeing, and note that the trailer morphs from religious horror into action stuff in a way that only Schwarzenegger's End of Days would capture at the other end of the decade! If only Garth Marenghi knew he had competition!) is John Saint Ryan, who died on 4th April, and amusingly all the news reports seem to have been confusing Twemlow's 1983 G.B.H. film with the later "Channel 4" Alan Bleasdale series with the same title from 1991! So that also shows how obscure the films are in the UK. And since he was in Coronation Street and lots of US TV shows in later decades, that has inevitably been the focus in the obituaries with no real mention of his Twemlow work at all, even in Manchester-centric newspapers!

Also that "Fitness over 40 / The Art of Nude Massage" disc seems tailor made for Mike Stoklasa from Red Letter Media to react to!

Is Tuxedo Warrior the film directed by Andrew Sinclair (Breaking of Bumbo, Under Milk Wood, and Blue Blood)? I think that was based on Twemlow's memoirs. Also been on Sky Movies I think.

I joked about a Twemlow box set in the Michael J. Murphy thread but at least Twemlow had some kind of recognition within low budget filmmaking circles. Apparently the end credit music of Granada's Crown Court was composed by him under a pseudonym.

Maybe Cliff's The Assassinator (alternative title for The Hitman) was an inspiration for The Reprisalizer in Matthew Holness' short film A Gun For George:
