The 2024 All Labels Matter Awards

#1 Post by swo17 »

BALLOTS DUE MARCH 31

Before voting, please familiarize yourself with as many of these options as your time and interest allow. Remember, at least two people on the forum thought that each of these items was worth your time.

Please cast your ballots in this thread, voting only for items listed as eligible below. You can vote for as many or as few options as you like for each category. Your downballot votes will help to break ties. Where you are voting for multiple titles in a category, please sort your list in order of preference.

BEST THREAD

CC40
I Saw the TV Glow (Jane Schoenbrun, 2024)
original post
We're going to try doing this a little differently this year. Instead of having Criterion awards and then Other Label awards, we'll just have one awards thread for all labels combined. That's a lot of eligible titles and extras, so to make this more manageable for everyone, we will first construct a ballot out of the things that at least two people want to be able to vote for.

STEP 1: Review this first post to see if there is anything you'd like to vote for that isn't already on the ballot. If it's already on the ballot, there's no need to mention it.
STEP 2: If it's not on the ballot, review the rest of the thread to see if anyone else has already nominated that same thing.
STEP 3: If no one else has, then you can post that you would like to nominate that thing for the applicable category. If someone else has nominated it, then you can post that you would like to second that nomination. After something has been both nominated and seconded, I will add it to the ballot.
STEP 4: You are encouraged to explore other people's nominations to see if you find them worthy of seconding.

ROUND 1 FOR NOMINATIONS AND SECONDS ENDS MARCH 16. ROUND 2 FOR VOTING PROPER WILL RUN THROUGH THE END OF MARCH.

I will keep a running tally here of everything that is eligible for the final ballot. Depending on what is nominated, I will create additional categories at that time (best boxset, best label, best release by label, etc.). The idea behind having a fairly long time for Round 1 is to give people time to order releases from later in the year, to make thoughtful recommendations about worthwhile releases and extras, and to give other people time to explore those recommendations.

I'll sit down tonight and get to whatever hasn't been nominated/seconded, but I do just want to say I'm very glad we're doing all labels in one poll this year

also I should probably get around to posting my ballot from last year...I did vote via PM but I do like writing about my choices too, in my usual long post format

Martin Scorsese: Films Of Faith (Imprint)
Peter Strickland collection (Curzon)

Short Films:

If we're going to nominate threads, I'll go with I Saw the TV Glow. It's still only one page, but probably garnered the most interesting, active discussion of a movie this year

30% off for members only, but you could buy a membership for $5 with your order, it’d get discounted and then cancel it
