Hint for Friday's announcements. Maybe it's for To Live and Die in L.A.

If they licensed the original 1954 Dragnet movie as one of their WB acquisitions, I will die laughing

I would be over the moon if this was L.A. Confidential.

The Blu appears to not be in print, actually, so that is a good guess

I used to love L.A. Confidential and then I read the book, as well as the other Ellroys. My problem with the movie now is not that it jettisons big chunks of the book; on the contrary, as a cliff notes version of the book it is quite good. I do think however that the last scene of the film
Spoiler
where we learn that Bud has survived the shoot-out
feels too clean-cut and like a reaffirming Hollywood ending. Ellroy's books are rougher around the edges. Admittedly, Ellroy himself soured a lot on the film and he said (if I recall correctly) on the Crimewave commentary that someone like Sterling Hayden should have been Bud instead of Russell Crowe, and ever since I heard that, I can't but nod in agreement. Still, if this is what they're teasing, it's the first title that WB let them have that's actually good.

L.A. Confidential is part of the Regency library that Fox/Disney might only have distribution rights, not outright ownership.

The '54 film is owned by Universal now, along with the TV show.

I’m thinking a Joseph Wambaugh adaptation like The New Centurions or The Choir Boys

Could be Cop (James B. Harris, 1988), too

you joke, but given how Arrow's WB licenses have been so far, I will not be shocked if this is wrong

I do really hope it's L.A. Confidential but knowing it's part of another catalog now doesn't really give me a lot of hope. would be a smashing Arrow release

I did too, but it's very possible we're finally getting that To Live and Die in L.A. UHD upgrade. Then again, going by Arrow's history, the clue is too obvious for any of these to materialize, so maybe it'll be a random movie that happens to have a policeman in its cast of characters

Crime Code 2505 relates to passing counterfeit currency.

Well then it probably is the most obvious answer

Really surprised people were guessing good movies here. It's Arrow. Chances are it's going to be End of Watch or something like that. Gangster Squad is also a great guess.

That number is just the number that was already on the badge in the free stock image that Arrow used and I can't imagine that Arrow would bother to look up the code for counterfeiting for one of their hints. If it is To Live and Die in LA that probably would just be a coincidence when they lazily used a LAPD badge for a movie about a US Secret Service agent.

I meant it as a serious guess based on Arrow’s recent output.

Don't think it'll be End of Watch as that's with StudioCanal, but I wouldn't be surprised if Gangster Squad was actually announced after things like Clash of the Titans and The Man from UNCLE. Embarrassing if true, coming from the label I once wondered if they'd do Mann's Public Enemies - which basically resembles an Eisenstein film when compared to Gangster Squad (not that I can actually remember much of the latter). I notice people keep suggestion L.A. Confidential, but that's almost definitely with Disney (last I checked it was even on Disney+).

I posted on BR.com though there's a possibility it could actually be Cobra, since there's a separate UK-only Warner Bros deal in place and they look to be covering some of the same ground Shout Factory did previously (hoping especially for In the Mouth of Madness, Femme Fatale, Someone's Watching Me, Razorback, Coma, and the Lewton titles). Other slightly less likely predictions: Demolition Man, Tango & Cash, Falling Down, Lethal Weapon.

To Live and Die in L.A. 4K would seem sensible too, but that would be UK-only of course.

WB paid for a mural commemorating the primary characters that still exists on a barbershop in Santa Monica that I frequently pass by, so I unfortunately can never quite shake that execrable experience from my mind

The only thing I remember strongly about it is that there is a “sympathetic” minor character’s death that is so embarrassingly telegraphed and phony that it’s like something out of a Carol Burnett skit forty years prior. Just shockingly trite. I think the rest of it was somewhat better as it struck a more mediocre vein instead, but I doubt I’ll ever rewatch it to confirm
