I kinda doubt that the clue is for Conan since the clue is saying that it was restored by Imprint, while Conan was already restored by Arrow.

Whatever the last title is, the set will weigh five and a half pounds! It apparently has a memorable theme tune as well, if that helps in narrowing it down

Chariots of Fire has the most memorable theme I can think of from this decade, but I doubt that’s getting a nearly six pound box….

Part of me just really wants it to be Xanadu just for the laughs but it’s probably not it.

The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert 4K on November 27!

The film is with MGM/Park Circus in the UK so hopefully a release from Arrow or someone else in the future.

I never realized the German cut is a full 10 minutes longer. I thought it most mostly alterations in a few shots to make it more palatable to native German speakers

Definitely curious about the making-of doc, as that film does have some truly unbelievable VFX

Oh wow so cool of them to free ship worldwide the bundle, it'll only cost me * check * 75€ per release.
Yeah, no.
(as usual, maybe if they weren't spreading everything on multiple discs instead of optimize the authoring, it'll cost less to produce and the prices could be lowered)

Hilarious pricing on these. Makes Vinegar Syndrome look like they accept EBT.

Honestly they need to start offering standard editions alongside these insanely priced limited editions because there is no reason that they can’t and if they’re worried about FOMO literally look at VS who offer standard editions immediately with the limited editions. I love Priscilla and The Neverending Story but I am not going to spend $82 and $170 respectively for them with all their little Knick knacks.

It’s their policy of doubling (or tripling or worse) the MSRP for all releases if any additional disc is included that kills me. They are ironically the one label where I don’t want them to include too many extras!

I also wish their box sets weren’t, like, four feet wide each.

yes, to me it's an asinine practice. every other label (excluding some of the earlier Criterions where they did this) have been able to figure out having an extras disc without dramatically raising the price. even the BFI, I was impressed their new Ikiru edition casually included an entire second disc just for the extras, and it was right in line with their usual pricing!

I have been intrigued in this label for the extras on some editions (most recently Scarface) but the prices remain such a point of contention for me. I get that they're more expensive to import, but...

The issue is that it's like some of those German releases with humpteen discs like Dune : it's a cheap lazy practice to jack up prices instead of properly authoring stuff to minimize their amount. There looks like there is no reason for that dedicated Neverending Story extra disc, for instance.
So wow, 5 discs release, so many of them but wait, why so many ?

A 4K UHD of the vastly superior uncut German version of The Neverending Story, which also features the original score, different from the American version and more suitable to the story, can be purchased at amazon.de for the paltry €16.78 at the time of this writing. It has English subtitles on the main feature.
I have it and it's excellent.

I'm not sure I dislike a movie more than The Neverending Story, but I have to admit that I'm curious about this "vastly superior" German cut.. (don't self-flagellate, don't self-flagellate)

Of all the films I rewatched from my childhood, I thought it was among the worst. I would gently caution anyone against purchasing this unless they’ve confirmed firsthand that they like it as an adult, especially at that price point

At least they’re now properly mentioning what kind of transfers are actually on their discs. Until not too long ago, they deliberately misled customers by regularly advertising new 2K and 4K restorations but the discs only had ancient HD masters. The worst of these was My Summer of Love whose old master is one of the worst I’ve ever seen and they claimed this was a 4K transfer.

It is definitely best watched when you are 12 years old and it's the 1980s outside, but many aspects of it hold up surprisingly well even when viewed by an aged person well into 21st century! I do recommend the original German cut, which does not pull the punches and is less cheesy compared to the American version.

I’m a fan of The NeverEnding Story, a childhood favorite, and I have watched both the U.S. and German versions as an adult. While I agree that the German version is better, I will say that if you hate the U.S. cut, the German version will do nothing for you, as it is still the same movie. There are a few minor scenes here and there that are not present in the more famous cut, but we are largely dealing with a few minutes and in some cases mere seconds of footage that was snipped out of several scenes to tighten up the pace for American audiences. I find that these extra beats help lend more weight to the emotional moments. The most significant difference for me is the score. In the German version, we hear the entirety of Klaus Doldinger’s score, whereas the U.S. version replaces much of it with a new synth score by Giorgio Moroder. I’m generally a Moroder fan, but I’ve always found this to be one of his weakest and cheesiest compositions. Some of the voice dubbing is different as well — notably Deep Roy’s character, who actually sounds better in the U.S. version. And of course, the German cut lacks Moroder’s pop theme song.

In short, the two versions are not appreciably different enough for one to bowl you over if you hate the other. Take my advice and save your money.

I haven't checked the other retailers but Orbit are charging $174.99 (before shipping) for the Neverending Story. Is that the highest price yet for a single film release? I would never pay this much for a single film, not even for The Devils. I have no interest in buying Neverending Story but that price made my jaw drop. The only things that I've seen anywhere near this are imports from China (whoever it was that was handling the 4Ks of the King Hu films Touch of Zen and Dragon Inn recent-ish).
