A program screening many classics from 70s cinema will be held at Gateway Film Center. Quite a few new (?) 4k restorations are announced, including One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Network, Aguirre, the Wrath of God, All the President's Men, Deliverance, Midnight Express, and Dog Day Afternoon.

From StudioCanal:

FORBIDDEN GAMES (JEUX INTERDITS) - René Clément's deeply moving WWII masterpiece, now fully restored in 4K, has been selected to premiere in #VeniceClassics at the 2024 La Biennale di Venezia. Based on François Boyer's novel 'Jeux Interdits', the drama won the 1953 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was a previous recipient of the Golden Lion.”

Hoping this bodes a return of the title to Criterion in the US.

Alas, Kadokawa keeps churning out Masumura 4k restorations. Can someone including Arrow pick up Arrow’s previous efforts in getting these babies out with English subs? Radiance, Eureka, Criterion, any interest?

Would be nice to have a version of Blood and Sand that comes closer to replicating the original Technicolor look more successfully than current editions do. It's one of the scores of TCF Technicolor films that were copied to Eastmancolor stock, then melted down to retrieve the silver content, and dumped into the Pacific Ocean, as I recall.

Argot Pictures has undertaken a 4k restoration of Burden of Dreams in collaboration with Les Blank's son, Harrod, and Maureen Gosling. I didn't find any information connecting Janus to this restoration, but it's coming out later this month.

Restoring Marcel Pagnol films (in French):
https://www.cnc.fr/cinema/actualites/re ... ol_2228146

At the end, there is paraphrased info from Laura Truffaut: UA seems to have lost rights to Truffaut films. MK2 might get the rights. If so, La Sirène du Mississippi and L´Argent de Poche might be restored.

it's gonna really be something if after the Kino and Radiance releases finally get these movies out there, they're gonna have all new restorations. luckily Radiance hasn't gotten to Small Change yet, so there's hope...
