Is there a way to find all Radiance films released by individual directors?

Thank you, swo17. I had seen that. But I had no good way of knowing who are the directors of all the singleton releases (other than looking into each individually).

Radiance teases Bunuel and Rivette releases as forthcoming in 2024 in their bundle description— has this been mentioned already?

First I've heard of it. Fran did say a while ago he was open to improving upon some of the Cohen releases

Shame about City of Pirates. That's one title I was really hoping Radiance would be able to rescue.

Radiance Films General Discussion & Wishlist

#935 Post by Matt »

I’m glad a decent label is working on trying to release The Mattei Affair. The Film Foundation restoration that was briefly on The Criterion Channel was great. I think it’s owned by Paramount in the U.S., but it looks like maybe the “ownership” is more complicated than that.

And once again Naruse lies neglected. This poor man can’t ever catch a break. His 120th is coming up in 2025, so maybe there’s some small hope.

Seconded.

I know that Radiance explored other Ruiz films (many months ago, Fran mentioned that the materials for Three Crowns of a Sailor also weren't good enough) so hopefully we get at least one in the future. Cite Films advertise a 2K restoration of Treasure Island in their catalog and the films in the INA's 8 films rares set were all supposedly from restored masters (but one of those is Three Crowns of a Sailor!)

Does anyone know the status of Three Lives & Only One Death in terms of rights/condition of elements?

Why did I think it was going to be Hurlevent? Will be interesting to see how their extras compare to Criterion’s.

It would have been very cool/funny for them to release Rivette’s Hurlevent and Buñuel’s Abismos de pasión in the same month, the way Criterion once used to do witty paired releases.

It has been out on Blu-Ray in France for years, though I don't know anything regarding the master used.

Sadly, it fell through at the licensing stage, but I was briefly down to do commentaries for two radically different adaptations of the same novel (different countries, languages and budgets, one black-and-white Academy, the other widescreen colour, and so on) that were going to be included in the same package.

I wonder if the Bunuel release will be his Mexican films? MoMA just announced a program on them, and it seems like there's quite a few restorations. I've seen two of them already - they both premiered in the last few years - and they look amazing: Nazarín and Los Olvidados. A UHD or at least a good Blu-ray release of those two restorations alone would be incredible.

LOS OLIVIDADOS, plus EL and CRIMINAL LIFE OF ARCHIBALDO DE LA CRUZ, are amazing. The Mexican melodramas are my absolute favourites in his body of work. Not seen them for a very long time, I believe on DVD format.

Los Olvidados has been on my Blu-Ray wishlist for such a long time and I would be ecstatic if it got released since it hasn’t even had an official American DVD.

Had I known that there'd be a row about a dearth of Latin American films in the 2022 Sight & Sound poll, I'd have voted for Los Olvidados instead of L'âge d'or; there really wouldn't have been much in it quality-wise.

El is a particular favorite of mine, and it has indeed been restored

I still think the Bunuel will be Viridiana though, as it has no UK disc and Fran tweeted awhile ago that Radiance would be putting out a movie on the Sight and Sound list, that one fits the bill

As much I adore Viridiana, it would be a shame if it was the Buñuel title as there is so many underrepresented Buñuels out there. Though I do see as a win for the British crowd who aren’t able to get the Criterion Blu-Ray so I have mixed thoughts.
