A pleasant surprise. I've wanted to check these out for a while - normally I wouldn't be that interested in the Three Musketeers but they're Richard Lester films and Dave Kehr (a big Lester fan) really liked them, so I'm curious to see what's different about them.

They fit in very well with Lester's irreverent approach to any source material. Plus there's some
great set design and cinematography. Spike Milligan also has a nice supporting part in the first
film.

Most excited about Peeping Tom and Persepolis (the latter I didn't expect at all, and the original BD is over ten years old, so a fresh scan is very welcome). Wicker Man has got to be a UHD.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a 4K release for Contempt come soon since it's the film's 60th anniversary this year. I'm just hoping that Lionsgate gave up the rights to Contempt since I'm sick of the exclusive releases that people only in the U.S. can get. I'm still sore at not being able to get The Limey

I wonder how many of those are actually going to come out any time soon. If I'm remembering correctly, a number of titles from previous coming soon reels/teases have yet to be released.

Great to see Peeping Tom, badly needs a new Blu.

But most excited about Circle of Danger! A film I never expected to see on a list like this, one of Tourneur’s small understated films, an investigation film with a beautiful climax in the Scottish highlands. Hopefully it won’t take years to come out.

It is a catalogue trailer, so it can very well be that some of these movies will be "coming soon" for a theatrical rerelease only.

Out of that list, I’d actually be most happy with a nice release of The Others, an under-praised film seemingly too “genre” for the arthouse crowd and too arthouse for the genre crowd. In the US though it’s probably still tied up in Dimension Films/Miramax purgatory.

I was thinking the same thing. I haven't seen it since theatres but it was a very affecting film - certainly much more than its infamous spiritual cousin that came just a year or two before

Already available on streaming via Netflix (along with a deluge of other SC titles) in a number of European locations. Which is where I caught it, very solid restoration of a very solid movie.

Does this mean that Godard's "Contempt" should be ruled out as a Criterion 4K potential?

no, if anything it's a more of a certainty. which shouldn't be surprising, given it's an anniversary year for it and Godard just recently passed. I'm sure the new restoration will debut at Cannes (because why wouldn't it?) and we'll see a disc not too long after that. I think it's very unlikely Lionsgate would put this one out - Ran is one thing since it's something that could sell out at Best Buy, and The Man Who Fell to Earth has the lead actor it does. but I'd be shocked if Lionsgate went for this one...we will see though

That is one awful cover and this feels bloated rather than definitive.

Three Musketeers 2011 BD vs 2023 BD

Can anyone who has seen the films comment on the accuracy of the colors? The 2023 disc looks like a fine upgrade to me. More detail, more information in the frame and no more overblown highlights.
