It's my favorite Ferrara and Keitel is certainly my favorite Ferrara performance, his nudity isn't nearly as shocking as watching and listening to him cry.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I’m sure enquiries would have been made, but my understanding is that it’s not so much a question of money as of Jimmy Page personally sanctioning the use of the Led Zeppelin sample that caused the controversy in the first place.Computer Raheem wrote:Judging from the comments, I appear to be the only one excited for this release 8-[dwk wrote: Mon Feb 20, 2023 6:22 pm Bad Lieutenant UHD is coming from KLSC (probably their best Lionsgate pick up.)
Jokes aside, I'm just hoping Kino is wise enough (and legally allowed) to use the original soundtrack, though I'm not holding my breath that they will
And he hasn’t said yes thus far, so a safe bet would be another “no” unless Kino confirm otherwise - and since this would be a really whopping selling point one would have expected it to be mentioned in the specs if they’d achieved a breakthrough.

You can get good Keitel nudity from other films, too. Personally, I prefer The Piano for that.jsteffe wrote: Tue Feb 21, 2023 3:11 am Herzog's film offers screen-chewing hysterics from Nicholas Cage and and a scene shot in Iguanacam. Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I’ve just done a bit more digging and it seems that Jimmy Page’s refusal to license the relevant sample is most likely connected to personally abusive comments that Abel Ferrara made about him during the original copyright kerfuffle - the evidence being that Page has subsequently licensed the same sample elsewhere.
And if that’s the case, the original version of Bad Lieutenant isn’t going to be reissued legally within Page’s lifetime (as an absolute minimum).

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I never was able to see this, but apparently at the MTV Movie Awards in 1994, they had a joke where Harvey Keitel was the only nominee for "best nude actor" with several nominations spanning Bad Lieutenant, The Piano, etc. I was told they capped off the joke by having a censored naked man leaping out of his seat and running up to the podium.feihong wrote: Tue Feb 21, 2023 10:08 amYou can get good Keitel nudity from other films, too. More Billy Wilder on 4K, as Stalag 17 will be getting a UHD release.
I find it funny that the KL Insider said that Witness for the Prosecution wouldn't be a good seller on 4K but then release a film that is less popular.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I don’t want to clutter up the board with shipping complaints so I’m sorry in advance, but I placed an order with Kino back on the 9th of February fully aware they were moving warehouses and all that. But I haven’t heard any update and the order still has a status of “order taken.” Has anyone had a similar experience?

I think they've just recently got things rolling again, so probably going to take a bit yet for them to catch up.

Hopefully the supplementary materials from the olive signature edition will be included, so I can sell that package off.

Re: Kino Lorber Studio Classics
I'm curious about who did the 4K master of Body Snatchers? Is this a situation where Paramount started it and handed it off to Kino to finish? Or is Paramount handing them a finished master? (Or, to put it bluntly, what are the odds that Paramount blasted the master with excessive DNR?)

Frank Tarzi did an interview with Cereal at Midnight and said this will likely be cancelled (They are still waiting on Hurricane Billy to approve the color of To Live and Die in LA).
He also said they are releasing Columbo on Blu-ray.

Seems like that will be an expensive undertaking. The complete series DVD set is 34 discs.

Did seem too good to be true. Damn it. Can they at least release it on Blu-Ray?dwk wrote: Wed Mar 08, 2023 11:15 pmFrank Tarzi did an interview with Cereal at Midnight and said this will likely be cancelled (They are still waiting on Hurricane Billy to approve the color of To Live and Die in LA).

If they have an HD master, I would assume they can. I didn't listen to the interview, but from comments in the Kino thread from people who did listen, it seems they don't want to play the waiting game with Friedkin again.

Columbo is going to be released across two sets. I believe they plan to have them both out this year.

The Complete Colombo set from Japan was fully English-friendly (including SDH English subtitles).
Would there be any unique features to this set?
