Well, I sure hope the movie is better than the trailer, as that has to be one of the worst trailers in recent memory as far as for a film from a respected director and with a really good cast.

And, to be fair, I could easily see how this might be a good movie with just an absolutely awful trailer cut from it.

Curious to read some of the reactions out of Venice when I get a chance.

I'm already steeling myself for the inevitable onslaught of debates and think pieces that we're likely to get this awards season considering this side by side with The Fabelmans.

Based on the emphasis in that trailer, I actually thought Till might end up being the likelier comparison point among the chattering classes. But no matter. The film looks good, hoping (against hope) it will be a success for Gray.

If you lower your expectations considerably, Undisputed (2002) is a very fun b-movie. His miniseries Broken Trail is fairly good as well.

I think Geronimo (1993) is probably his single most important work, and maybe the best post-1972ish Hollywood western. Easily the best film with John Milius’ name on it after Apocalypse Now, too

Hmm, I really like Extreme Prejudice and Clear and Present Danger (the best Jack Ryan, sadly criticized as the worst), but I'll check it out- I see Indicator put it out on blu last year, so maybe I'll pick that up

First completed feature in 13 years. The Shadow King had a tragic fate.

It’s amazing how long it took to get a full trailer for this. The first Netflix animated film to be submitted to the MPAA which has received a PG-13 rating

I hope Wendell and Wild is better than the bad trailer and Jordan Peele's involvement as co-writer and producer suggests (I loved Coraline but this trailer and Peele make me nervous).

I'm also not entirely thrilled with the trailer, and I certainly hope this is closer in quality to Coraline than Monkeybone. It'll be having its world premiere at Toronto in a few days, so we'll see what word-of-mouth indicates then.

I do have an affinity for Selick's whizbang devilry, and in the increasingly niche arena of auteur-driven stop-motion animation (we can root for both him and Phil Tippett, can't we?), I would be delighted if his newest film was a creative triumph, let alone did well with audiences. Especially after, as beamish14 noted, the aborted production of The Shadow King (which, iirc, saw a significant portion of its production completed before being cancelled. One can hope Selick will eventually finish the work someday.)

I’m still amazed that no studio was willing to take on The Shadow King after it was cancelled near the mid-point of production. I’d really hoped that Annapurna or Netflix might have acquired it from Disney, but I’ve heard from some people familiar with it that the story just wasn’t workable
