He was 96 but still a gut punch. I just saw a bunch of his films at Anthology Film Archives as part of an ongoing celebration of his work.

Rapper and singer PnB Rock at only 30.
Warning for those who may be inclined to Google him: there is extremely graphic footage of the aftermath of his death circulating online. Please be wary of where you might end up so that you can avoid having to witness it.

Klein's Broadway by Night is an excellent short and I've a lot of time for Mr Freedom, nicely pastiched by Beck in the video to Sexx Laws!

Ted Walch, a performing arts teacher at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles. I know him from his frequent guest appearances on Max Baril's Classic Movie Musts podcast, especially the series of episodes on William Wyler. There was always a nice rapport between Baril and his former teacher - it's a real pleasure to listen to them both getting excited about Wyler's use of staircases. I wish I'd had a teacher like that at school or university.

I'll always treasure that segment of Amazon Women On The Moon for Silva's perfectly straight faced performance of a really silly concept!

For some reason I always think of his distinct character in Manchurian Candidate first and foremost in name association, despite that it's such an underwritten role, but he's great in the underdiscussed gem Johnny Cool that domino recently put on my radar, and was in some fun unexpected roles all the way up to Ghost Dog!

Silva as a baddie in Code of Silence (1985) is scary, seriously.

Drummer Anton Fier. He's played with a ridiculous number of people: John Zorn, the Lounge Lizards, Bob Mould, Pere Ubu, the Lounge Lizards, Mick Jagger...it's possible he's collaborated with Bill Laswell the most but I'll always remember him as the Feelies' original drummer (see Crazy Rhythms).

Re: Passages
Sorry to hear this. I had a chance to meet and interview Fier in the mid-80s when he was touring with the supergroup The Golden Palominos (and saw him live a few years later when he drummed for Bob Mould). He struck me as a no nonsense professional who adapted well to the numerous musicians he performed with.hearthesilence wrote: Thu Sep 22, 2022 1:28 am Drummer Anton Fier.
