I don't think Amazon always gets KL titles in stock on release date. I pre-ordered Out of Sight when they had it on discount and it didn't arrive until last week.

Today's UHD announcement is The Score (2001, Frank Oz) with Robert DeNiro and Ed Norton. Another one they didn't plan to release until they learned that Paramount had a 4k + DV master ready.

Hey, I havrn't thought about it either, but I do remember it being touted at the time for being the first film to bring Brando and DeNiro together. I also apparently rated it a 9 on IMDb, presumably for bringing Brando and DeNiro together

I hope they include Norton's appearance on The Late Show to promote this, because he hilariously talks about how he was immediately disillusioned when filming his first scene with all three them (himself, DeNiro and Brando) together.

seemingly ignorant, nice-guy Edward Norton turning out to be a different persona all along... the movie isn't good in general, but that 'twist' is set up from the get-go and they actually have the nerve to follow through with it as if it's a novel, audience-shaking/pleasing reveal

on the other forum, it seems that Witness, Marathon Man, and The Truman Show have all been ruled out. I figured these would be three no brainer titles for Kino, probably even UHDs. I have faith their Paramount deal will yield some gems, but those were three that seemed pretty clear cut.

I do hope we see Once Upon a Time in the West if absolutely nothing else

To be honest, I'd be surprised if Kino got the rights to Once Upon A Time in the West from Paramount. It appears to me that the films Paramount is willing to give them are ones that they want nothing to do with, and Kino already appears to be pulling a Kino with their wonky priorities (i.e. giving Indecent Proposal and The Score UHDs but not The Italian Job). I doubt that Paramount would be giving them the keys to release such a major title of theirs (I will be prepared to eat these words in the future should I have to though).

BTW, if I were to hazard a guess as to the ruled out titles - Marathon Man is most likely with Criterion, Witness will be a Paramount Presents title, and The Truman Show is a toss-up between the two.

Yesterday Kino announced another Sony title, Blind Fury.

Fun movie, here are my thoughts from the 80s list project:

Blind Fury (Phillip Noyce 1989) Quasi-remake of the Zatoichi films with Rutger Hauer as a Vietnam vet who spent twenty years in the jungle learning how to fend for himself after being blinded in combat. This film recognizes the absurdity of its premise and wisely chooses to not play it straight and indeed embraces the comic tones of many of the action sequences. It's not a Mr Magoo approach, it's a ludicrous "Blind guy somehow fights men with guns and wins" approach-- and yet it works! I could have done without the shitty little kid Hauer has to drag around, but I liked many of the colorful foes Hauer faces up against, and it reminded me a little of Justified in how all the one-line villains are given little character tics and personalities beyond the needs of the plot. There are lots of fun fight scenes and one of the final battles strikes me as yet another a potential influence on Kill Bill (And this film is definitely the kind of flashy, well-made trash that Tarantino loves and continues to make), and by the time it was all over and the last villain is eliminated via a delayed-reaction special effect, I had to admit I enjoyed this far more than I expected going in.

I haven't seen The Score but it is amazing that they would cast Edward Norton like that again. After Primal Fear and especially Fight Club it would be hard to watch any film of that time with him in without expecting that twist. It sounds as if it would have been like seeing Leland Orser in a film and being expected to be surprised when he turned out to be playing a nervy, somewhat unwilling murderer character.
