Umm, so I guess all oppressed people 'get' the same thing - uniqueness smashed in favor of broad collectivistic victim-identification? That's some pretty utopian material given that the opposite practice seems to be the default today! I don't think the allegory is funny, but I laughed out loud when it was revealed with sincerity in the trailer because... what?!

Here's White Bird: A Wonder Story, a "spin-off sequel/prequel and companion piece" to Wonder featuring one of the schmaltziest, most ridiculous allegories for physical disability I've ever seen

That actually seems interesting as when I wrote up the film in ludicrous detail a few years back the aspect that I ended up being the most interested in was theorising about what could have happened to that bully character who was removed from the school without particularly learning his lesson about tolerance because his parents were more incensed by his bullying being called out. It was interesting to speculate about how coming from a privileged family with the power to insulate from having to accept consequences for actions as shown through that experience may have affected him as a character, potentially making him even worse. From that trailer it seems as if this film may be trying to redeem that character a bit, albeit seemingly doing it through opening his eyes to persecution through telling him a well worn Holocaust story. And it may all depend on how much weight the framing story may be given as compared to the period story (and which lessons the character learns from it) that will be the most telling part.

Although Mirren will have to watch out that Maureen Lipman doesn't get on her case again over her casting!

Back on topic, here's a trailer for She Said, a movie about the Weinstein case journalists, because of course

I had a visceral reaction to the mere announcement of this film, solely due to the irony of Hollywood patting themselves on the back by producing a movie about the wrongdoings of one of its most powerful (and prolific) abusers and simultaneously washing its hands of its involvement with any wrongdoing. It's kind of gross, in my opinion; I have a gut feeling that this film (and any others that deal with similar subject matter after the fact) will be seen as some sort of marker of progress in the film industry, all the while the same abuses to women will be perpetuated behind closed doors. The same cycles of misogyny and abuse will continue, and no one will learn anything of note. So, of course, I expect this to sweep every awards show next year

This reminded me of something I've been wondering recently so might as well ask here. When did voiceover narration in trailers, ubiquitous in the 90s, go out of fashion? What was the last trailer to use it in a non-knowing way?

Maybe when Hal Douglas died? Not being facetious, he really had a distinct voice people were familiar with, and it's possible that gave studios more reason to use him and employ narration.
