Sad about this one. Her releases on Warp were all great. Really liked her Peel Session. Saw her DJ once, she put on Kraftwerk's "Numbers", sad down and lit a cigarette. I chuckled. RIP Mira Calix.

Marvin J. Chomsky, best known for his TV work—including Roots, Holocaust, Victory at Entebbe, and one of the best ("All Our Yesterdays") and worst ("And the Children Shall Lead") episodes of the original Star Trek—but also helmed a few theatrical features. I saw a screening of the Polly Platt-scripted Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff a few years ago and spent much of it slack-jawed in disbelief—not entirely in a bad way, but it's one of those movies that from a contemporary perspective feels like an artifact from another planet.

I see that Jeff Darling was also the cinematographer on the Alex Proyas music video Mysteries of Love for the group Alphaville that was part of their "Songlines" video of songs from their Breathtaking Blue album.

RIP to Jordan. She was essentially the muse for Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McClaren's "Sex" shop, which had an influential place in the first wave of UK punk. Her image (makeup, clothes, hair, etc.) became the style that a majority of people associate when they hear the words "punk rock".

Re: Passages
Her monologue on the state of the world followed by ballerina dance in Jubilee may be the provocative (and most beautiful) high point of that film, turning a Rocky Horror quote into a political mantra and rhapsodising over a notorious serial killer, even if her Eurovision satirising (but nowadays more a proto-Britain's Got Talent) performance of Rule Britannia may be the most indelible one!
"Who believed in statistics then? Only the vital ones..."
I do hope that someone took to opportunity of doing an extensive interview with her about this period because the Criterion edition's documentary does not really get into the experiences of the actors who worked on the film, to the extent that I was surprised reading the Guardian article to find out that she was the manager of Adam and the Ants! Which I guess explains the appearance of Adam Ant in Jubilee! But also I would have been curious about how the apparently frosty reception of Vivienne Westwood to Jarman's film (as displayed by that manifesto'd T-shirt rebuttal) may have impacted on Jordan particularly. Did that cause a breach for her too, as that would potentially have been the more significant event than Jarman satirising punk before moving on into pastures new.

Re: Passages
I can't believe it's not on YouTube, but long before I knew anything about older movies, I knew his name from the Kids in the Hall skit where Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald sing a pro-Joe McCarthy song that namechecks him. And he's been in lots of movies all of us have seen. I in fact just saw a film with him in it a few days ago for the 1961 project
EDIT: Found it!

Re: Passages
I clocked how old he was last summer when I captioned him complete with dates in one of the extras for Indicator's The People Next Door - and had to double-check that he was still alive, as sometimes these things aren't updated.
