Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
In case this helps. Here are the after VAT prices of stuff I've bought during sales:
on sale:
single film LE - £8.33
Noir - £24.99
Hammer - £23.33
Not on sale:
single film set LE (i.e. Corruption, Night of the Demon) - £15.83
single film LE - £13.33
I've never bought a standard edition so I don't know what those go for. I also haven't bought any of the single film sets while on sale (at least not since the VAT change)

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
glowingwabbit, I'm thinking since you'd have to reship within the US, that'll still incur additional costs, especially if the packages include boxsets. I guess, if Indicator insist on the 20 pound shipping tomorrow, it'll still work out cheaper. How would we send you our payments? (Obviously details via PM)
I'm sitting out the Kino sale so got a bit more money to spend tomorrow. I'll let you know as soon as possible tomorrow if I partake or order directly. I think the sale usually kicks off at noon UK time.

My original thought was that I'd split the US shipping cost with each person so it doesn't start adding up too high on my end.Finch wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 12:02 am glowingwabbit, I'm thinking since you'd have to reship within the US, that'll still incur additional costs, especially if the packages include boxsets. edit: I have plenty of boxes and packaging materials I can use from work. It's just the postage I'm talking about.
edit again: also in terms of payment, I prefer f2f PayPal (unless you want to pay their fee), but wouldn't expect payment until I have the stuff to send.

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
With the VAT + pound to dollar exchange rate, does this still become cheaper to buy, say, Hammer vol 6 via the sale vs. Amazon US for ~$50? I realize other box sets i.e. noir #4 are more expensive, just trying to figure out what makes sense

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
23 pounds is about $31 right now. Even factoring in shipping costs at around $5 or $6 for Media Mail, you're definitely coming out ahead.therewillbeblus wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 1:36 am With the VAT + pound to dollar exchange rate, does this still become cheaper to buy, say, Hammer vol 6 via the sale vs. Amazon US for ~$50? Very cool, I'm going to try to preview two films I'm on the fence about today, but otherwise should be all set to PM my order to whoever wants to do a group buy

I live in NJ and I'd be interested in a boxset and maybe a single. I can't PM because I'm more of a lurker here and a tad more active on the other forum, any chance I could partake in your group buy?

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
Thanks again for doing this, glowingwabbit. I am not a fan of adding titles I'm at best on the fence about for the sake of making shipping more palatable, and while I applaud the variety of Indicator's selections, there haven't been enough titles I liked the past twelve months to add up to £200. They must have crunched the numbers and anything below £25 for shipping globally would have put them in the red. If this group buy goes well with no extra hassle for GW, I'm happy to join again in October/November (unless deepdiscount's sale on preorders is turning into a regular feature and the batch of announcements from June to October only yields two or three titles I actually want).

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
No problem. The hard thing going forward is that they are releasing US titles now too and they are reasonable priced so I'm not waiting for the sale to get some of those. This means less titles during the sale that I want. Not likely but hopefully the Bogart one will be on sale in November (but I assume they'll hold it for next spring)Finch wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 1:40 pm Thanks again for doing this, glowingwabbit. Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
This was actually a really good sale for me, I was just able to hit the £50 threshhold for items I had always wanted but never got around to getting.
In the end i ended up with:
Columbia Noir #4
Invincible
Irreversible
Irrevversible for £12.99 was really good in particular.

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
It's usually six months from the release date before a new release is included. I am assuming there's going to be something I want among the Q2 & 3 announcements but if deepdiscount keep up their pre-order offers, I'm more likely to sit out the next sale.

Is there some obvious reason I'm overlooking that Columbia Noir #1 isn't included in the sale?

I mean it's "low stock" but that's never been a thing before. Maybe it's a mistake?PfR73 wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:18 pm Is there some obvious reason I'm overlooking that Columbia Noir #1 isn't included in the sale?

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
Yeah I had that thought but other "low stock" items are in the sale, so that's why I was confused.

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
If they had included vol. 1 in the sale, I probably would have bought all of the first four.
I reformed as a die-hard collector a little over two years ago, but these noir sets have had me fighting not to relapse into the old habit of lining up box sets on shelves willy-nilly even though these are noirs that I'd probably watch no more than once or twice each. I guess my best move now would be to buy vol. 1 off Amazon and hope that 2 (and the others) are still around when the next sale happens (November, I assume).

personal take on this -PfR73 wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:18 pm Is there some obvious reason I'm overlooking that Columbia Noir #1 isn't included in the sale?
they did it to combat scalping. Indicator was very aware by bundling these titles into a series of lavish boxsets would get people to collect them all (and it's certainly worked for me, among others). they will certainly rerelease them in standard editions when they sell out, but I would hazard a guess these will be some of the lower selling of all standard editions whenever those come - the entire appeal of the sets is indeed that format, which is likely going to fetch a high price on the secondary market. so had they run Noir #1, a title they have already let us know is low stock at 29.99, you'd have all the usual ebay scalpers stocking up..at least this is what I think.
they put the Dietrich/Sternberg set on sale when they were running low as I'm sure Morocco, Shanghai Express, Blonde Venus, and the Scarlet Empress will sell decent amounts in their standard editions.

I recall them doing this with Hammer volume 1. The set is selling well so I think they figured they will have no trouble moving the remaining copies. Dietrich was a much slower seller by comparison.

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
I really hope Indicator comes through with Thunderbolt and that it's an improvement over Kino's version. To be fair, Kino's seems fine (and it's only $9.99 during the current sale), but the title was at the top of my wish list from Indicator along with Ishtar and California Split. Losing all three would flat-out suck.

Cisco Pike, National Health and Secret Ceremony are down to their last few copies, according to Indicator's FB feed 2 hours ago.

Re: On Ordering Indicator Releases
makes sense as Hammer didn't have a decent R1 equivalent, no? Dietrich of course had the Criterion release preceed it, and I'm sure many importers who already had that edition didn't bother to go after this one. Hammer is definitely a better comparison in terms of "collector" value so to say.Nw_jahrles wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 10:26 pm I recall them doing this with Hammer volume 1. and I agree completely. with how well Indicator did with the Hawks titles, I'd love to see them delve more into pre-code stuff (let alone silents!) and Thunderbolt would be a great one. that's definitely been rumored awhile now without any further indication...hopefully we see it show up in the new postcardshearthesilence wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 11:11 pm I really hope Indicator comes through with Thunderbolt and that it's an improvement over Kino's version. I'm debating pulling the trigger on the Kino for sure, I like Nick Pinkerton's commentaries (and I'm sure Indicator would port it over, as they commission him all the time) but just knowing the second I get it, it'll be announced..
