Napoleon stood 5'6" and Joaquin is 5'8" -- this might be his most complex role yet!

More complex than that. Napoleon was actually 5'2".

While a widespread misconception, this isn’t true, as he was 5’2 in French inches, which was about 5’6 in the inches we use today

Also worth noting that people were a lot smaller back then, and Napoleon was either close to or at average height for men. Napoleon wasn't as short as the bare numbers might suggest (be they 5'2'' or 5'6'').

This history site says Napoleon was 5'7 and the average French man at the time was less than 5'5, but the tall bodyguards he had to have made him look small by comparison. (No reference sources unfortunately.)

Not exactly from an unimpeachable source, but there is reason to believe “short Napoleon” was basically a meme of English propaganda.

This is also in Andrew Roberts' excellent biography. The Brits smearing of Napoleon is covered in great detail.

Really looking forward to this one. I feel like I'm one of the only people who enjoyed House of Gucci more than The Last Duel, but both films represent Scott's most interesting work since The Counselor. (I still need to revisit his Prometheus films and The Martian. Still not sure how I feel about those.)

Obviously, I'm not looking forward to seeing people confuse Scott's movie with the Abel Gance film. He couldn't have picked a different title?

Anyone confusing a Ridley Scott epic with a silent classic made a hundred years before needs more help than a title fix will offer

That photo looks like Joaquin Phoenix dressed as Napoleon for Halloween. Granted, I'm not sure how much different I should have expected a photo of him in costume to look, but somehow it just looks ... silly.

To be fair, the set photos of Damon and Affleck in costume for Last Duel looked pretty silly too, and that turned out to be a pretty good film.

That trailer is terrible though. Must have been made by Sony because they put the "TRAILER. STARTS. NOW." nonsense before all their actual trailers.

Phoenix seems hopelessly miscast here. Why does he look so somnolent?

At least he’s the only person without a British accent
